I am 56 years old and have never colored my hair. I have straight very fine hair . Now it seems that the grey that is growing in is very course, Frizzy and wirey. Almost Curley. I also have some damage from flat ironing (even though I have straight hair, flat iron eliminated any frizz). So now my hair is damaged with two different textures. I intend to have the damage cut, but I am also considering doing the color. My question is, will coloring my hair help smooth out the grey hair so it will be less unruly, or will it just color it and the texture of the grey will remain the same. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure, but if you call Clairol's hair coloring hotline at 1-800-223-5800, I'm sure they can answer all your questions and recommend the best product for you.

Hair color will not change the texture of your hair, but the color. The texture would be the same regardless because it is grey and the process of greying can change the texture. It is an age thing. Sorry!

I have had grey hair since I was in my 30's and now am in my late 50's. I have been coloring my hair since then and find that my hair is much more manageable when I have colored it. It seems to make my hair have more body- I don't know if it is because I am adding color (dk blonde ) to my hair (which would be 80% white) I notice that my hair is always thicker and fuller when just colored. When the grey starts to take over it is fine and limp.

When I finally started coloring my hair about 5 years ago, I am 59 this year, it seemed to smooth my hair a bit, also my stylist said as the natural color leaves the hair it tends to become course, wirey....coloring I think will help a bit.

I am pretty thrifty and did not want to color my hair but she talked me into it and I am glad, I pay $50.00 for a cut and color aprox every 12 weeks, I could go more often but as I said I am a bit thrifty and don't want to spend the money. I use a wash out color on my roots after I shampoo about the last 3 weeks before my next color it helps cover the gray.

My gray hairs are ""wirey"" too but after I color my hair the texture is smooth.

This is unfortunately, correct. I color my hair and also in my mid-50's and if I do not use a curling iron, it is frizzy on the ends due to greying. Any heating element will smooth out the kinks on greying hair.
