Both skincare and make-up for me! However, as I have aged I have a pared down make-up routine compared to my youth!
I have always had good skin, I have pared this down too, only using what I know works and I no lomger bounce arounf to new products like I used to.
I probably have more make-up than I should, but it's fun!

Skincare: I don't use anything that I don't consider helpful so again, it's all important to me. BTW, Tret is still doing nothing (good or bad).
I use 3 hydrating products, I've stopped my Retinol and Glycolic Acid since starting tretinoin. Snail snot (snail mucin), Lactic Acid, Niacinamide and moisturizer.

@Shanus I still have too much makeup as well as skin care products, but I buy far less than I did in the past!
Just over three years ago, I made a cross country move and went through everything I had, tossing out so much. I realized how wasteful it was, to buy too much.
If someone buys too many handbags, shoes, clothing, etc...at least those items can be donated and hopefully get reused. All my opened cosmetic items went to a landfill.
what do I buy now? For the most part, I replace items as needed, like my Clinique foundation, my Estée Lauder eye products. I have no holy grail mascara....buy different ones as needed.

@monicakm How long have you been using tretinoin and how often do you apply it? I've read that it can take at least 3-6 months to see results, depending on what you expect. If you don't have acne, fine lines, wrinkles or dark spots, results might be miniscule. It seems that you need to keep at it for longer.

6-8 weeks (I think). I started out 1x per week. It didn't cause any issues so within that same week I bumped it up to 2x a week and after that first week, every night. I just put on an essence a few hours before and a moisturizer after tret. Yeah, I don't have those things and this was more of a preventative measure. What I mostly expected was side effects. I had 2 tiny flakes of skin on one side of my nose. I peeled it off and nothing since. I know I have a hearty complexion but I also think it's the skincare routine I've had for years prior. Anywhere from 6-10 steps including retinol.

I'm a minimalist when it comes to skincare. But makeup? LOL! Not at all!
My mom loved makeup, so I've been playing with it as long as I can remember. Ironically she didn't let me go overboard until I was about 16. I was selected as a member of the "teen board" at a department store. We got classes in makeup, so we we would look good walking around the junior department wearing the latest fashions on Saturdays.
I had to wear false eyelashes. I hated that, and haven't worn them since. Aside from that, one Saturday night I had my full makeup on when I met my friends at a volunteer firemen's carnival. One of the cute guys I knew asked me to go around with him. We went on the Scrambler and one of my lashes blew off! He never said anything, but I was mortified. Probably why I never wore them again! LOL!
I have a lot. I like to play, and I look forward to my "seasonal" makeup. I have makeup for all of the seasons that I rotate. One of my favorite shadows and powder blush "sets" is an Indian summer collection Laura Mercier did years ago.
I don't keep anything creamy or mascara of course. I have enough to last a long time. But that doesn't keep me from buying and trying more!

@monicakm Happy you feel up and bushy tailed to post. Most makeup will last more than the year...powders, some cream proiducts, but mascara should go after 3 months.
My point was many bottles or tubes of foundation, for instance, no way can all be used up in a year and may go bad. You're correct to go by smell and consistancy.

@Regal Bee wrote:@Shanus I love skincare and makeup and spend a fair amount on both.
I do believe that if one has good skin, they can wear just about any kind of makeup...I love high end and drugstore.
@Regal Bee You're my kind of Gal. I've practiced good skincare for over 5 decades (!?!?!?) and it HAS paid off with skin that is makeup (not SPF) optional.
My Mom had acne and scarring her entire life and it frightened me that my skin would be the same. By the time I was 20, I was seeing derms, using skincare products they recommended and still do this.
I love wearing and applying makeup obviously and also love NOT having to wear it.....

You know those green square plastic baskets that hold a pint of strawberries at the grocery store? All my makeup is in one of those pint baskets. I don't keep a stash. When I empty a container, I buy a replacement.
Same for skin care. I have 4 favorite products I've used for years. Borrring.
@tototwo IMO, not boring at all. Once you find what works and have a small stash, you've hit the jackpot.
