@Citrine1

I can't count the times I've said that exact thing.  A kinder, gentler time.  A time when people cared what others thought of them.  A time when people didn't wear white after labor day! lol  We got into the white after labor day thing at the restaurant a couple of evenings ago.  It dawned on me I was still wearing my white watch band...oh no! (g)  The young lady at the cash register had heard it but didn't know WHY.  A cowboy I stopped and asked about it said he'd heard of it but didn't know why.  The young lady really wanted to know what it was about.  I said (back in the day) it was the end of summer, kids were going back to school.  White = summer.  Going right now to have DH put on my light tan watch band so as to not embarrass myself tomorrow while in the city (g)

A sophisticated nose???  Just kidding, I agree with you.  What may smell "cheap" to one, may be delightful to another!

Thanks @Toots711! That was interesting and fun! I didn't know they had ankle bracelets back then.

 I briefly thought about becoming a flight attendant in my first year of high school. One of my favorite swim instructors, who was beautiful, became one after college. I thought about going to foreign lands and learning all of the languages. There was just one problem --

@beach-mom

Afraid is when an engine goes out and your mother is throwing out Christmas presents and suitcases to keep us from crashing into the Ohio River Smiley Surprised  I wonder if dad remembers that.  I'll ask him tomorrow.

Don't think I'd make a very good 1950's woman.  Glad I'm not in that era.

I always balked at that kind of advice.

It reminds me how women had to dress when I entered the corporate world in the 70s, especially if a woman wanted to be anything except data entry or take shorthand. Men were in charge and women were 2nd class.

Women were kept in their place back then. Many men want women to be in that place today.

Women have much more to offer and can equal or out-perform men without having to dress a certain way.

In my youth, I thought I wanted to be a "stewardess" too.  It was one of the few ways out of my small town life.

Somehow, I managed to get an interview with American Airlines in St. Louis.  During the questioning, I was asked what my maximum weight had been in the last 5 years.  I answered 130 (I was 5' 6").

The response was something like, "That's too much.  Those are slim aisles and we need slim girls."

Obviously, I didn't get the jobcatlolll:

And, obviously, times have changed!
