Glass nail files

Hi, ladies. Last year, I started taking a multivitamin that contained biotin, and my nails looked fabulous after a couple of months. Then, a few months ago, they could not grow even a tiny bit without cracking. Although I have never had nice nails, this was a new problem. I blamed it on the colder than normal winter and aging (I am 48.). Then, I had a flash of genius (maybe). I started filing my nails with a glass nail file at the beginning of December. I have now stopped using the file and will see what happens. Have any of you ever used a glass file and had it cause problems with your nails? I am going to work on dinner and will check back soon. Thanks in advance for your replies!!
