@2zbeach If it easily removed as any other nail polish?

It’s easy to remove unless you’re using glitter. I normallly use Zoya remover and it works well to remove polish.

Ahhh, that was the product Shawn was presenting! Perfect Formula. My mistake. Anyway, she seems happy with the product.

A lot, if not all of that glittery, sparkly polish she wears is Julep polish. She included a few glitter polishes in the Julep kit she collaborated on.
LipstickDiva - Shawn did explain her years of wearing acrylics; then changing to something else. I thought she meant gels at the time; but I'm a gardner and haven't worn any polish (other than clear) since I stopped working! I looked up the Perfect Formula and that was the product she was selling and is now using (for now anyway).

@Lipstickdiva No, I went and listened to the presentation. She repeatedly said that her nails were currently hurting. It sounded VERY much like damage caused by whoever was doing her nails. There shouldn't be pain involved if whatever type products used were used correctly.
Hard to tell if she was using hard gel, soak off gel or uv gel polish (or a combination). With any of them, some nails techs do too much buffing/filing of the nail surface. In addition to over thinning the nail plate, it possible for the friction to actually build up enough heat to burn the nail bed. My guess is that up until some point she was using hard gel, which would allow easy changing of regular color polish (such as Julep). Hard gel needs to be filed off. Ideally a very thin layer of gel is left. But it's very possible for part of the nail to be filed away. And you have the same potential for heat to build up.
With soak off gels, there's the same potential for damage from over buffing during nail prep. Plus if the soaking isn't done for a long enough time, nail damage can occur from scraping of remaining bits of gel.
Heat spikes during curing of either hard or soak off gel can occur and cause damage if the tech is using poor technique and/or the client already has damaged nails.
Damage involving thinning will take months to repair itself, since new nail has to grow out to replace the damaged part. If the matrix has been damaged nail growth could be affected, possibly permanently.

I just observed when I keep my nail polish for a week or 2, my nails have this white something stain and then my nails become brittle and easily cracked. what's the brand name of the gel nail polish that you're using btw? I would love to try that. Thanks.![]()

@pattypeep Have you considered dipping. They dip your nails in powder. Gel or shellac ruined my nails. I love the dipping process. It’s a bit more but last much longer. JMHO.

@Lipstickdiva wrote:@pattypeep, I'm glad you like them. I know several people who get gel polish and do very well with it.
I get gel polish but on top of acrylic nails. Unfortunately, my nails are horrible. I tried just doing gel polish but it didn't give my natural nails enough strength. They still bent and broke so I had to go to acrylics. I love a nice manicure.
ETA: I was assuming you meant gel polish. Maybe you meant actual gel nails?
@Lipstickdiva I also get the gel polish over my acrylic nails. My nails will never be strong, and even though acrylics are supposed to be awful, I love them !!!
Never chips, breaks, and they are so strong that I have used them for tools, like a screwdriver sometimes !

No she said her nails HURT they were so bad from them just removing the gel's she has been wearing. I know she had said she used that Julep stuff but truly those glitterly gold and/or silver nails were not that brand they were gel polish. From what she said she had gotten physical damage to her nail bed when they remove it...leaving hot spots...which is when the nail is so thin in that area it's tissue paper like. I had a woman file the top of my nails until this happened to me (1st ever getting a mani) it was awful and very painful. Shawn has a long way to go...growing them out...will take months...I feel for her...been there.

@mare54...funny you mention that. I recently switched from hard gel nails to nail dip powder and ❤️ it! I wore acrylic for 20 years, then switched to gel nails for a few years and now the dip powder. It’s still very new where I live and I only heard about it 2 months ago. I know of only 2 salons that do it, but I’m sure the more it catches on, the more salons will offer it. Now that I’ve switched I’ll never go back to gel. I do still get gel pedicures though because my nail tech doesn’t do the dip powder on toesies.
