Is it realistic to expect a powder foundation to cover areas of discoloration and minor texture issues?
Looking in the mirror after wearing LG Balance and Brighten for a couple of hours, there was no coverage to speak of. No evening out of my skin tone. Some color, but thats about it.
Have been trying this product recently. Is this the best it gets? Maybe I didnt apply enough?

@smoochy I have never had luck with coverage with LG Balance and Brighten. And never really had it last on my skin either. I used the Balance and Glow only as a finishing powder. LG also said recently in the last couple months, B&B was not giving her the coverage she needs anymore and she started to use one of her newer ones (might have been the new stick foundation, cannot remember exactly.)
For me, and I know not everyone likes the product, but the original loose Bare Minerals lasts a good long time during the day. And I mean sweating through the zoos and theme parks, Williamsburg VA in July (phew it was holy humid that week!) Never got a sunburn either when wearing.

Maybe try applying a primer first?
That can help with better coverage and create a smooth surface for foundation with longer wear.

I also agree with the loose bare minerals but it is messy. If you want a compact foundation I like IT Cosmetics Celebration Foundation.

@smoochy I don't care for that one either (only her spot coverage meaning Laura Geller for a pimple tap tap do I like in a tiny compact to cover it. (forgot the name) I used it last night where I had a red spot under my eye and a red spot on side of cheek.
I think you will be very happy with MAC powder foundation.
I use that kabuki (easy to clean) brush looks like a short version, swirl around the compact and brush it around the face. It's all I use and it works. It will last all day and there is nothing better for me. I used to use Lancome powder, but it was too weak?? Meaning not enough coverage. With MAC, it's more heavy duty but still naturally applied correctly. All day to night wear (I'm in Florida too, ugh).
Now the main problem is finding the right shade. If you are near a makeup store ala Ulta or the big ones like Nordstrom, Saks, etcetera it will be easy to color match. Ladies are always nice there.
Good luck

@smoochy - LG's Balance and Glow is one of my HG foundations, and I have good luck with it. But as @SilleeMee recommends I always use a primer under it.
I've always liked Balance and Brighten. When I wear that one I use a three-step application. First I pull my Kabuki brush all the way out and put a light layer on. Then I retract the brush and concentrate on any areas that need extra coverage - always under my eyes, around my nose, and anything else that is bothering me. Finally I pull the brush out and put a very light dusting quickly all over my face. I use a spray setter (right now Kosas is my favorite) and my foundation looks good all day. ![]()

I too agree with Bare Minerals, it covers well and does last. For a Mineral Powder that covers but isn't loose, I like PUR.

I have good luck with Clinique's Beyond Perfecting powder foundation. It's foundation and concealer in one. It gives good coverage, and if you want to cover redness, discolorations, blemishes, etc., you just dab on a little extra. I use it for this purpose to cover mild rosacea, redness around my nostrils and the usual under-eye darkness.
I have slightly oily skin, and I've found that powder foundations wear better than creams. With a cream foundation, it looks good when you first put it on, but then it gets progressively worse looking as the day goes on. Powder foundations look a little too powdery at first, but give it 20 minutes or so to settle down and then it looks better as the day wears on. I wear powder color cosmetics on top of the foundation, no creams. I know it's generally said that powder foundations don't work on mature skins, but I just haven't seen that to be true if you apply with a light hand, at least for me.

PUR is my favorite foundation. I got my first kit from the old ShopAtHome TV network years ago and I've been using it since. Has great coverage.
