I have never had pretty finger nails, but do keep them, shaped, trimmed, clean, etc.  HOW can I keep the underside white or whiter than they are?

I have used a brush to clean, I generally put a drop of bleach in my dish water when washing dishes, thinking that would help, it does not.  Any suggestions?

My younger self had very white nail tips. They were so white that if I used sheer polish it looked like I had a French manicure. They became less white as I aged. I tried lots of things that said they would whiten my nails, nothing worked. Then covid hit and I stopped going for manicures. The tips of my nails started getting whiter. My point being don't waste your money. Nothing worked until I stopped using polish. If it bothers you wear polish that is dark enough to cover your nail color. That could be nothing more than pink, it doesn't have to be a very dark color.

@Janey2   I do not polish my fingernails....never have.  I do not want to bring any attention to my hands/nails.

@Mom2Dogs   I always wear gloves washing dishes or cleaning the house therefore the bleach wouldn't help. I do squeeze lemons into the water if iI soak my nails pre-mani but the soaking can weaken the nails. Its purpose is to soften cuticles, but also softens the nails. I use a cuticle remover gel and the Perfect Formula in Pink to help the whites of my nails.

@sann   I do have Hydrogen Peroxide in the house, I can give that a try.

I think I recall the former host Antonella Nester (spelling) saying she used peroxide to whiten her teeth!

It is considered a whitening agent... you can use equal parts of water and peroxide...I use it for teeth whitening adding baking soda....

@Mom2Dogs  Hi!

I was going to mention bleach & the white pencil, too.  I have used both.  I did not find the white pencil effective long term.  It also did seem to work uniformally for all my nails.  It made a difference on some and not on others.  But it is worth a try.  That was just my experience.

Bleach is a pain in the splash LOL.  No matter how careful I am with it, something always seems to get hit.  So I rarely use it, but it did make my nails whiter by soaking in a little bowl of it for a few minutes.  I did not dilute it  Again, my experience and be careful with it full strength.

You mentioned not wanting to call any attention to your nails and hands... what about the perfect gel coat?  It is a pinky clear coat but it's more clear than a color. I don't think anyone has every noticed it.  LOL

I always wore polish but now I work from home. Maintaining colored nail polish is just too much work at this point.  I do like and use the gel coat.  It makes my nail whites appear whiter.  It's one coat, once a week.
