Faux Tan Help... Building color

I am new to Faux Tan and a little unclear about building color....one application is not enough...so the question is...do I do the 1st application, wait 4-6 hours to develop...then shower to remove excess then do application again? I've done a few applications but still learning and trying to build the color. Thank you BE ladies....{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}
