Fake Makeup

Another story on the national news last night about fake makeup. This is a big business on the East and West coasts mostly. Packaging and colors look identical to high-end brands, but ingredients are dangerous and unsanitary. These fakes are usually sold at discount markets like fairs or sidewalk shops, or online - not in brand-name stores. Ladies think they are getting a bargain, but end up with skin and eye infections, rashes, etc., that require medical treatment.

I know this has been discussed on here before - this is just a reminder.

And it's not just make-up. A few years back, there were reports of fake toothpaste on the shelves in some dollar chains -- no idea which chains or which brands or whether there was ever a follow up to that original story.

I'm very cautious about anything that actually goes into my mouth -- and because I already have so many eye issues, anything that goes near my eyes.

I've heard on the news to not buy beauty items from Amazon or eBay. These places are riddled with fakes.

@Sunshine Kate, I do agree about eBay. @Shelbelle and I often disagree politely about buying cosmetics and skincare from eBay. She recommends it often. I haven't been worried so much about fakes -- but am now after reading this -- as much as I am concerned about freshness.

I would buy from Amazon only if it's sold and fulfilled by Amazon and not a third-party seller.

I would never buy cosmetics or skin care from Amazon or eBay either!

Allure magazine says to buy directly from the brand's website in order to avoid getting the fake stuff and if you happen to buy a product from a reputable place like Sephora or Ulta then somehow find that it is a fake, you can take it back to that store for a refund....and leave a nice comment for your on-line review.

I have 2 teenage granddaughters. I buy them quality name brand makeup from QVC or Ulta.

But the one granddaughter is always on youtube watching those stupid how to's.

They have flawless skin but I keep telling them that if they use some of this .99 drug store stuff their nice skin will not look that way much longer.

Teenagers are notorious for 'sharing' makeup. I constantly am talking about how that is a no no....

@tototwo,I don't have any problem buying makeup from amazon either. Just watch the seller which is listed.

Well, I don't have any problem buying that ".99 drug store stuff" because, seriously, who's going to fake the cheap brands? No profit there. Just because some brands are more expensive doesn't mean they're better quality.

I bought once fake parfum from some internet site. Never again. All my make up is only bought from the name stores , Sephora, ulta(nail polish), Q. But mostly I trust places like Bloomingdales, L& T, Nordstrom,etc.

Never dollar stores for food or make up. I like them for balloons, gift bags, aluminum trays,disposable Tupperware for guests to take home food.
