Re: Facial psoriasis sufferers

I had psoriasis on body and scalp and inside my ears (the worst) for years.  I used tea tree shampoo which seemed to help as did selsun blue medicated shampoo.  You can use selsun blue on your face too and it can sometimes help.   I never got 100% relief though and used rx creams on my face and rx shampoo sometimes too.  3 years ago I started Stelara and (knock on wood) have been clear since.  It was only a couple of weeks and was gone.

I would HIGHLY suggest looking into one of the meds they have - I see there are also some new oral ones.  I feel so much bettter and one less thing I worry about covering or keeping clear.  I now used baby shampoo as my facial wash and Serious Skin Care glycolic cleanser.

I used/use Bare Minerals or Physicians Formula powders and now use Maybelline Clear Skin foundation.  Also used/use Cerave AM Spf and PM moisturizer.

Best of luck to you - it is an awful think to have to live with.

Re: Facial psoriasis sufferers

I am currently in remission. I have had psoriasis since I turned 40. Mostly on my elbows and back.

I had a spot on my eyelid, when I saw that I headed immediately to the MD. She gave me an RX cream for it, and it cleared up quickly.

I do get regular facials and peels at a Skin Specialist. She has dealt with facial psoriasis and encourages me to continue as the exfoliation assists in keeping scales or eruptions from building. I am lucky so far!

As you probably already know moisture is a key to keeping the skin healthy and even more so with psoriasis I like Curel, CeraVe and Baby Oil Gel. I use the gel on damp skin out of the shower.

For make-up I always use a primer and now I use IT Cosmetics CC Cream or Celebration foundation, I used  BE for 25 years and then people started telling me my skin looked dry, so I switched.

I switch up my moisture lot as what works one time might not work the next. But I'm guessing you already knew that! Good luck, it is such a fickle affliction!

Re: Facial psoriasis sufferers

Thank you both very much.  I have been taking minocycline for hydradenitis suppurativa now for a while and of course, that makes my skin drier than usual and the layers begin piling up.

I have been using Olay products for cleansing and moisturing and find the Regenerist does help but the others seem not to and perhaps I have been using them too long.  I need to play around with them.

I think I will try the Curel products and alternate my facial wash and shampoo with baby shampoo.  I have very good hair (a blessing) and my hair seems to be able to tolerate any product I put on it, so I am not going to worry too much about what it looks like, just my scalp (I have the kind that itches my ears, behind my ears and scalp).  Sometimes it looks like bug bites and other times it is the built-up scaly silvery look.

I also used BE for a long time and then it began to look like it built up, like made scaly patches on its own.  I am sure it was the response to my skin type.  I had been wondering about the IT products.  That is my next stop.  Thank you again, Ladies.

Like everyone, I have remissions and exacerbations, which I have had since my third/last pregnancy, age 30.  It seems this has been a longer exacerbation now.

Re: Facial psoriasis sufferers

I have had psoriasis for the last 20 years, although it is now in remission.  It was never on my face but in both ears, both hands and both feet.  I have used so many products and was not satisfied until I found Beekman 1802 on Evine.  I use their bar soaps on face and body and I have been amazed how wonderful they are.  They are a little expensive but they are so worth it. Hope this helps you a little!

Re: Facial psoriasis sufferers

I have had psoriasis since I was a child.  I have not had a serious flare for about 15 years, but occasionally have patches on my face.  These have always made me very self-conscious.   When I was a child, they treated them with a sunlamp... no longer used.  (I do have sun damage.) The only treatment I find effective is now is coal tar.

Oil of Olay products work the best for me.   I wear BE during the day. Cleansing at night ( I use OoO citrus scrub) before applying night cream, is absolutely essential.  Perhaps you should try a new nighttime cleanser if you're experiencing make up build up.

I plan to copy and paste this into a document for future reference as I try items that each of you has recommended.  I hope my journey will be short to finding a solution but just in case....so thank you again.  It is not terminal.  It is not even really painful, but emotionally trying and annoying.

Re: Facial psoriasis sufferers

Years ago, I had tried everything.  I had it in my T-zone - it would be raw and sore - everything I tried made it burn.  I had a lady who sold Mary Kay ask me if I would give her products a try.  I said "go ahead, it's not going to work though".  I used the cleanser and instantly could feel relief.  It is the "extra emollient" cleanser.  Then I tried the extra emollient night cream and OMG!  My skin cleared up and I have no more problems.  The "pink stuff" (night cream) is just the best.  I have told many people who  have psoriasis about it and they have all said  it helped.  I even wrote Mary Kay herself to tell her how amazing her product was.

I have a mild case of psoriasis on my face that I have not had a problem with since using Signature Club A's argan oil almost exclusively.  I tried pure argan oil and it was not as good.  For me, doing less to my skin (I use a peel, mask, or scrub only once a week - used to do way more than that) and using gentle and moisturizing products that are not heavy has been the best.  I also use IT Cosmetics foundation or BE foundation.  Try to keep things as natural as I can.   I'm 58 years old.  Good luck to you.  Wish you all the best.
