Re: FAVORITE BRUSH AWARDS GO TO....

My go tos are the Lancôme brushes — eye shadow, cheek, precision & a Sephora kabuki brush or a Lancôme foundation brush.

Re: FAVORITE BRUSH AWARDS GO TO....

It's interesting that favorite brushes should be mentioned today as I've watched youtuber Stephanie Nicole's new video today about her favorite makeup brushes and so I just decluttered some of my unfavorite/unused  or worn out makeup brushes.

Most of the makeup brushes I use are synthetic bristles as I'm not comfortable using real hair makeup brushes anymore so my favorites are by Sigma which I've bought individually when they show up at Winners. I also like NYX eyeshadow brushes in the medium and small size (I think that they are numbered 12 and 13). I also like ELF makeup brushes like their highlighter brush or their all over face brush.

I decluttered some eyeshadow brushes from Tweezerman that were too big, and too stiff. They really didn't fit my eye shape very well so out they went. I also tossed out a couple of QVS blush brushes that were losing their shape. I got rid of some Morphe brushes too as I didn't like them very much either.

If I like a makeup brush, I'll get a second one so that I can rotate them so I don't have to let a makeup brush dry before I use it as I can just use my backup brush while the other one is being cleaned and dried.

I also have watched some youtube videos on cleaning makeup brushes and blender type sponges so I just got a bottle of Dr Bronner's castile soap in the unscented version to wash and clean them. The castile soap is working to get the foundation stains out of the sponges which is a pet peeve of mine when I can't clean them very well. I dislike looking at stained makeup sponges.

This time of year is when stores get their makeup brush gift sets so I'm going to take a look at some of them when they show up at Winners.

@JustJazzmom  Ah, just the one to ask. I purchased a few Lancôme brushes at holiday in set from HSN. The black bristles continue to fade at each washing. I returned them. Have you noticed this?

@TY  Great saving time knowing which brushes you like (& don’t). I have doubles for my most used brushes for personal use and at least 6 of each for professional use. I’ve added some great brushes from the art supply store, too.

Re: FAVORITE BRUSH AWARDS GO TO....

I wish I could say I have brushes that I love for applying face products but I always default to my beauty blender because I find it gives me a nice, streak-free finish. I do however like my It Cosmetics all-over powder brush for dusting my setting powder on and my Bareminerals fan brush for blush, contour AND highlighter.

Re: FAVORITE BRUSH AWARDS GO TO....

My everyday brushes:

  • ELF kabuki brush
  • BareMinerals concealer, powder, and blush brushes
  • Tarte eyeshadow brush

The Tarte one was included in a kit last year, and I didn’t want it. Turns out it’s perfect both for laying down my base and defining.  Lastly, I only use liquid liner, but I normally use ones with applicators these days. I only use a brush (BareMinerals) when I want to use a wet eyeshadow color as a liner.

Mine are from the Lancôme website itself or from Ulta website. I haven’t noticed fading or dye bleed when washing them. Some earlier reviews about 3 - 4 years ago were having dye bleed, but since mine were purchased after that (about 2.5 years ago) I haven’t seen dye bleed issues on the reviews. I would save up my Elite Reward points when I ordered makeup & would get a brush that way, or if there was a really good deal from Ulta for their Platinum members or I wanted to use their rewards, I would get the brushes that way.

What I have noticed on one of the GWP cheek brushes, the brush though still soft occasionally will lose a hair or two after washing. It’s not that bad yet.

@JustJazzmom  When washing all brushes, be careful to not wet the ferrule (metal part holding the hair). The glue inside can release hairs or loosen the handle of the brush.

Yes, I am careful. I had the ferrule loosen from an Elf brush (white handle) on a foundation brush (synthetic bristles) & I Krazy glued it back together. I think the most important thing is to hang brushes in a down position to dry completely (squeeze out all excess water with a hand towel) or let dry sideways on a flat surface (over a sink?) for at least 8 hours or overnight.
