Eye Shadow Primer

I've recently started wearing eye shadow again but at 59, my eyelids are not as smooth as they once were and sometimes the eye shadow does not go on as smoothly as I would like. Does anyone have a Holy Grail for an eye primer they use that allows the shadow to go on smoothly and seamlessly? I love the new smokey gray shades of shadow but they don't look so great if they go on blotchy. Would love to hear your suggestions. TIA, Reva
