I use this gentle exfoliation by Dr. Kaplan twice a week.  It's actually intended for daily use.  I can't use anything harsh.

I've been using this and Argon Oil afterwards for a few years.  I have great old skin!  People don't believe my age!

Currently use the naturium milky toner 5 days a week in the morning. It has some exfoliating properties. Then the other two days I have been using Eadem cashmere peel. Really like that one. I think I am going to try the summer Fridays exfoliating pads when the Essen is gone. Use those a few times a month because they have glycolic acid that the Essen doesn’t have. But I will probably repurchase the cashmere peel.

Re: Exfoliation, how much and what kind

someone mentioned having oily skin  since high school...I was very fortunate that as a teen, I had a nice complexion..was never oily.(same with mom and dad, thank you folks 😉) But my friends were all using Bonnie Bell Ten o Six lotion and Noxema cream and those clear amber soaps. so of course I tried them too. Oh man they dried up my face so bad! My skin has always been normal to dry. Then very dry in my old age with a little sensitivity thrown in, dont know where that came from.

I alternate between these two.  For reference I am 59 (not much longer though) with dry skin.  I prefer the Paula's Choice over PTR.

  • Paula's Choice 6% Mandelic Acid + 2% Lactic Acid Liquid Exfoliant

  • Peter Thomas Roth Even Smoother Glycolic Resurfacing Pads (although I think they have been discontinued because I don't see them on his website or QVC).

@SurferWife I have been using PTR's Glycolic Resufacing pads too.  I was on auto delivery for them and just received an order of them last week.  Yet the page is now gone.

@smoochy I also use Elemis Dynamic Resurfacing pads. I plan on trying Tacha Rice polish soon.

Re: Exfoliation, how much and what kind

As I have posted before, I am hard-pressed to use a physical exfoliation product due to sensitivity issues and rosacea.  I do much better with applying my cleanser with a small, cheap baby washcloth.  This seems to do a better job with the cleanser and helps to remove the flakes, etc. which I have been troubled with and does not seem to overly upset my skin.  So, I am urrently using this as my method of exfoliation!

@AngelPuppy1   I use a baby washcloth, too. Once a week I do use a regular terry one which is all the exfoliation I need.

Re: Exfoliation, how much and what kind

my exfoliant is organic baby shampoo or baby bath made into a paste with baking soda and salt and then scrubbed from face to feet.

Gotta say, it's a soft smooth clean feeling right out of fhe shower - skin is ready for the next step of whatever oil or serum I apply on all parts of my skin...this is my ritual every night.

Not including literally shaving my face - which I have done since high school when an older lady I would see at the neighborhood pool told me why her skin was so flawless (oh, and it was) on her face and neck - I have blonde barely there fuzz - never much more than that on any part of me (legs or underarms - pert near invisible).  She told me it's a great exfoliant and so I picked up the habit and never stopped.  I also use an epilator on my face and neck between the dry razor exfoliating days.

Dermaplaning, peel pads, Mandelic peels, TCA as well.  Also microneeding which helps tremendously with not just collagen induction but skin texture.

Re: Exfoliation, how much and what kind

Smoochy, I would suggest that you do NOTHING to your face but warm water for a week to let it rejuvenate to your natural self.

Our skin is self healing....that's why they say use Vaseline!

Vaseline only keeps the natural skin oils where they belong.  It doesn't change the natural PH.
