If the only silly money I ever spent was on skincare how wonderful would that be!

All my mother used was oil of Olay....and she had lovely skin.

I wish that just once, when we get into this nostalgic mode, that someone would say that their mother or grandmother used only Pond's, which seems to be the one that pops up most often, and had horrific skin that made her look older than her age. ![]()

I do not fall for the hype because I refuse to pay $$$ for skincare. Plus anything skincare does do is temporary so why pay the big $$$? For me it is important to hydrate your skin and that's what I do for a lot less. And, many women do not want to use Vaseline and I always did under the eyes because it makes the skin taut. I don't care if Vaseline came from the bottom of the petroleum barrel, if it works, if works. ![]()

Am not a gullible person thank goodness and I realize is all about marketing. They all do it, some more then others, some less but they all do it or they would not keep their jobs very long. The hard sell is here to stay it appears and is up to the consumer (science degree or homemaker) to be both shopping savy, have realistic expectations from any product, and spend within their own means. No empty pockets here from buying into the hype-and-hard-sell. There is much more to be gathered by ingrediant deck comparison shopping.......at least for Stormy that stradegy works.

My mother & her 8 sisters (inc. the one still living is 87 and has beautiful skin) all used nothing but Ponds cream.
My sister still uses Ponds cream and in her 50s has skin as smooth as a baby!
Me (age 61) on the other hand, fell for the hype and started using different product lines. Used to love face products from Philosophy (over 6 years) but got terrible clogged pores, acne & more -- went to dermatologist for the last 2 years - now I only use Cetaphil and my skin is finally looking great again!!!
I totally understand the hype -- cosmetics is a billion $$$ industry ...I want to have those great eyelashes too!!!!
I saw a gorgeous 100 year old Chinese woman on television once, and they asked her what her secret was ...
Vaseline!
My friend who is chinese and was a flight attendent for United only used vaseline, beautiful skin.

Didn't happen to the women I knew. We had noxema and they had Pond's. Noxema helped pimples in my generation. Pond's was it. These women I knew had beautiful skin, very little wrinkles, didn't go out in sun much, like walking like we did or sunbathe. Also they ate fresh, frozen didn't come in until my time. My Grandmother and Mother cooked fresh, not even frozen. Went to corner store almost everyday or in our case had a garden in the back yard. Not a lot of chemicals or cars in my day as a young child.

My MIL had beautiful skin into her late 70's and used nothing but Vaseline.
