Has anyone ever used coconut oil for dry scalp?  Hairdresser suggested that (or even extra virgin olive oil), saying she could sell me expensive product from the shop,  but recommended I try this.

I don't have flakes, just dry skin.  She said slather it on, leave for 15-30 minutes, then wash.

@MamaWick   Good morning. I tried oil on my scalp once and it was too difficult to wash out. I do a weekly or twice weekly hair deep conditioning treatment (Shea Moisture from drugstore) and of course it goes on my scalp, too.

Your best bet is some kind of oil.  People shy away from them but I find that oils are very beneficial for the skin and scalp.

While I have used Beekman goatmilk oil and like it I've recently tried the Skinn oil with manuka honey. (HSN)  This one is a game changer for me.  I've never had a dry skin issue until the last couple of winters and I will say this stuff really works!   I do rub some into my scalp at night and mix with my moisturizer after showers.  Manuka honey has amazing health benefits.  @MamaWick Smiley Happy

Believe it or not, my dermatologist told me to use Head and Shoulders condtioner. He said it is the most moisturizing  conditioner on the market. I assume he meant grocery and drug stores, not salon. He, as well as my hair stylist both said never use tee tree oil since it is very drying.

@Tupe   Yes it works very well, there is a reason its still on the market. My father is almost 80 and has ALWAYS used it. He still has a very, very full head of beautiful hair!

@MamaWick

I bought Derma E Scalp Relief shampoo, conditioner & scalp treatment serum from iHerb. I tried the shampoo alone first but it didn't help. After adding the conditioner & scalp serum it does work.

I have been using Olaplex but use the Derma E when my scalp is dry. It's a pain using the Derma E on my scalp & use the Olaplex on the rest of my hair. That's what I just did.

I like it says to use this conditioner on your scalp. It made my scalp feel so much better.

It's 20% off at iHerb right now. The 3 piece set is about $26 with the 20% off. Free shipping on $30.

If you buy it you might want different bottles to put it in. The bottles are not made for shampoo & conditioner. They are hard. I cannot squeeze the bottles. I put them upside down on other bottles overnight to transfer ingredients.

@MamaWick   I never tried that and I'm pretty sure I never would BUT, several years ago, I found a recommendation on a long hair discussion board. It is a simple combination of white vinegar & water; I use about 50/50. Apply it as a final rinse but you can leave it on for a bit before rinsing.

I used it every time I washed my hair at first.It got rid of the dry scalp quickly. My scalp tends to get dry with the change of season but I have continued using it once in a while (once a month or so) and have never had the problem again. Cheap & easy.

I'm currently using Raw Sugar. I bought it at Walgreens, but Amazon has it too. I only bought the shampoo. Been using a couple weeks and seems to help.

My friend swears by Selsun Blue, but I don't like it.
