Has anyone purchased a product called Derma Rolling (for home use).  My 21 year old daughter wants to purchse one.  I am very nervous.  She is comcerned about acne scars and and a few pimples.  My suggestion is going to a Dermatologist, but why listen to me (I'm only her mother)

I purchased one but I don't use it. I got it for product penetration and collagen production, not reduction of scars.

To address your issue, I'd say, give her the contact info for a good dermatologist and/or esthetician and offer to support and pay for a visit.

At the same time, I'd gift her a UV disinfecting device and some isopropyl alcohol. Dermarolling is not dangerous when done properly. Although I believe that rolling over active pimples is not encouraged. The main concern is to keep the roller sugery-level clean every single time. I'd make sure she has everything she needs to stay safe and then trust that she will realize whether or not she is making the right choice.

BTW: Does your daughter know about colloidal pimple patches? Colloidal pimple patches from Korea are the best thing to absorb blemishes and avoid scarring. Search "COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch" or "Nexcare acne cover" on Amazon. As a former picker, I am an absolute zealot about these things.

Do your research on Dermal Rolling. I would recommend reading as much as possible on it. This is a serious skin procedure. Sterilization, proper tools, products to be used and not before and after using the roller are very important. I would have a good dermatologist do this procedure before trying it at home. This is a very good book to get and read from cover to cover before trying Dermal Rolling. “The Concise Guide to Dermal Rolling. Expanded Medical Edition By: Dr. Lance Setterfield, M.D. (I got it on Amazon)

I've been microneedling on my own for several years. But the first treatment was done by a professional and that's where I would recommend  to start.  Needling is not for everyone. Pre-existing conditions may limit its use and  other treatments may be recommended by your derm. For example, laser resurfacing has proven to be widely used for the non-invasive treatment for scar reduction. Depending on the size and area to be treated, laser resurfacing may require more than one visit. With any type of treatment the skin should be free of active acne. Treating skin that has acne with either a laser or a microneedle is not recommended.
