Bobbie on The Today Show w/Hoda & Jenna did a segment on finding your best match with foundation and one of the brands she mentioned was a new to the US custom foundation. They match you and you can choose the coverage you want. If they get it wrong, they'll fix it. The name of the foundation is Dcypher and it's $64 which IMO is reasonable for a custom foundation.
If you want to watch the segment just go to The Today Show website and choose Hoda and Jenna. Looks like you'll have to disable your ad-blocker now to access the site.
Or you can check out the Dcypher website (.ME).

Last year I went to Ulta and had one of their reps help me with a foundation. She was very good. Tried a couple of shades and she got the perfect one. It was a lot cheaper than $64.
Having the rep helped me a lot because you can't tell how a foundation will look by testing on the back of your hand.

The Prescriptives brand from way way back offered custom matching. They declared bankruptcy. I believe they were the first brand to offer a hydrating powder. I always wanted to try but didn't and will now never have the chance ![]()

I worked for them years ago. We did the color match and they really were quite nice.We now have so many more foundations that will work on most skin types. Custom really only needs to be done on some who has a skin tome that is difficult to truly match. It was a great job and I loved it.

I used to wear Prescriptives. However, I think their color matching was from whatever shades they offered. They didn't blend you a match, so I wouldn't consider it custom. According to what was said in the very short time Bobbie spent on it was that they blend your match for you as well as your coverage desire. She said the number of shades is unlimited.
It's not for everyone, and not for me, but it might be an option for some here who have difficulty finding a good match. I did have that issue, but have finally found 3 foundatons that work for me. It helped that I got away from the brands sold on HSN & QVC which were always too yellow. The most expensive one, though, is in that $60 price range, which is why I said $64 seemed reasonable for an exact match.
Interestingly though, whenever I try to use Sephora's color matching when looking at other foundations online, there's never a match to the ones I use (Nars, Fenty, Armani), so I may be more difficult than most.

@Icegoddess I obviously don't wear foundation but custom matching a high zinc oxide >25% spf to my color, i would hop on that in a heartbeat!

I went to my local Ulta and was matched there--I am a warm light. They matched different shades to my neck, which I thought was interesting. Been happy with that knowlege --not sure I would spend that $$ on foundation. But who knows? I don't wear foundation much --am more of a bb or cc type girl.

I did try it and I liked the foundation.

@Icegoddess - I would love to try a customer match type foundation.
