There are several brands of skincare I would like to try at QVC....Perricone and Peter Thomas Roth for example, but neither of them are Cruelty Free. With all of the new technology available, I don't understand why products have to be tested on living beings. Many companies speak of the incredible ingredient used, but they still test them on animals. I just don't get it. I would love to see the great results on my skin, but knowing an animal was made to suffer to lessen my wrinkles just breaks my heart.

Maybe someday the beauty industry will step up and use technology, not living beings to assure the safety of their products.

The line between CF and Non-CF is blurred. Here's what the FDA (the people who oversee cosmetic safety and other concerns) has to say about the issue:

"Cruelty Free"/"Not Tested on Animals"

"Consumers sometimes ask about use of claims such as "Cruelty-Free" or "Not Tested on Animals" on cosmetic labeling.

Some cosmetic companies promote their products with claims of this kind in their labeling or advertising. The unrestricted use of these phrases by cosmetic companies is possible because there are no legal definitions for these terms.

Some companies may apply such claims solely to their finished cosmetic products. However, these companies may rely on raw material suppliers or contract laboratories to perform any animal testing necessary to substantiate product or ingredient safety. Other cosmetic companies may rely on combinations of scientific literature, non-animal testing, raw material safety testing, or controlled human-use testing to substantiate their product safety.

Many raw materials, used in cosmetics, were tested on animals years ago when they were first introduced. A cosmetic manufacturer might only use those raw materials and base their "cruelty-free" claims on the fact that the materials or products are not "currently" tested on animals." - posted on the FDA dot gov website

So the next time you venture out to buy a CF-product, you might give it second thoughts. Much of what the industry says about their products is solely for the purpose of selling it to you and has no certified or legal basis to what they say about CF.

Isn't that the same FDA that's failed to determine the source of multi-state outbreaks from Wendy's lettuce since 8/19/22....yeah, that would be them.

What other credible agency provides info, guidelines and a place to file legal claims if you have an issue regarding product usage? There isn't one and so consumers are limited as to what they see and don't see on product labels, CF included.

ETA-

There's an entire industry based on "CF" and yet there is no legal certification or creditation agency to warrant such claims. It's basically a free-for-all.

I don't understand the testing criteria, so I won't go into that.

I am sure that companies would love to do away with animal testing, also.

Because something is tested on an animal does not mean that the animal was tortured. I know we have always seen the worst of the worst of animal testing, but it is not all torture.

Maybe some of them just get softer, wrinkle free skin. Softer hair. 

I hope with all of the new knowledge testing has gotten safer & kinder.

I think what needs to be done regarding CF labeling is to establish standardized criteria for labelling as such. That would be similar to how FDA certified organic is done and then that way a 'seal' can be placed on packaging to clearly display it's CF and certified with legal terms where you can go and make legal claims in a court of law. PETA isn't part of that system

I know I go against the grain here. My daughter was basically a test for a cosmetic item. These were not tested on animals prior to my daughter being in the testing group. Unfortunately, she has lifelong scars due to the "cruelty free" testing. Sorry, I really would have preferred a rat be tested first instead of my daughter. I had no idea at the time that she was a guinea pig for an item not already tested. 

I understand testing on animals is a concern but when it boils down to it, I prefer testing on animals prior to humans being the test pilots.
