One thing I can’t complain about is taxes.  I  didn’t have to pay anything.  But that’s because I didn’t make anything.

Oh, don't get me started!  It's why the government created HIPAA!

It's okay that I can't talk about work -- no one would believe me anyway.

@just bee

That’s my excuse—I stopped my antidepressant the other day!  🥴😁

@geezerette

It's why I don't want any more degrees.  I have no desire to become a Practitioner because I don't want to diagnose or prescribe medication.

Working in healthcare -- particularly in psychiatry -- has made me recheck my Libertarian credentials.  I suggest everyone review their party's platform and see if you agree with it before you vote again.

A Certificate for Evaluation is creepy: Authorities can come to your home and take you to a psych hospital where you will be admitted involuntarily.  That's all fine and dandy until it happens to you.

I'm all for freedom, lower taxes and smaller government, but I didn't sign up for a cannabis dispensary on every corner.  Libertarianism doesn't work without personal responsibility and we're sorely lacking in that area.

It's fine to say that individuals have the right to put any chemical they choose into their bodies as long as they don't harm anyone else, but the problem is that they are harming everyone else.

Addiction is considered a mental illness now.  I used to have a soft spot for alcoholics because many of my favorite people were alcoholics.  Most of my English teachers, Peter O'Toole, Ben Franklin...

But now most of the patients we see have substance issues and it isn't pretty.  If I had a dollar for every person who tells me "he's only positive for THC" I could retire.  Well, good for him -- he's still psychotic.

I can't support the movement to make everyone numb.  Dementia runs in my family; the only reason I'm not an alcoholic is that I don't want to hasten my dementia.

There are psychiatric illnesses and medications that make a world of difference.  Meth, heroin. marijuana and alcohol are not helpful -- even if our patient population believes it to be so.

I worked with addicted babies before I worked with addicted adults.  It's a problem.

So... you okay with your decision to give up your antidepressant?  There are so many facets to the medication issue.

Aaaaarrrrgggghhhh!!!!

So I get up to get dressed, turn on talk radio in the bathroom and what are they talking about?

The best way to get your CBD products: Topical, vaporized, gummies...

Yeah, and just gloss over the part about getting your medical marijuana card and giving up your firearms...

I don't understand what's happening to my talk radio station.  I just looked at their new schedule and the cannabis hour is a fixture on the weekend lineup.

I've found an alternative channel, but -- interestingly enough -- half the time I just get static when I tune in.

Conspiracy?

See, I can be paranoid without cannabis!

Yeah, I’m fine with it.  At least to give it a try.  Besides, I don’t think I’m taking enough to make much difference anyway.  I think my doctor was too quick to jump on the antidepressant bandwagon to begin with.  But at the time, any type of promised oblivion sounded wonderful.

If I was a young person today, I’m sure I would have been put on some type of mood altering medication from birth.  My heritage is Eastern European.  They were never happy people.  I’m pessimistic by nature, and I don’t think that should be medicated out of me.  I’ll deal with it.  Or I can start taking the pills again.  But I already find I’m more clear-headed during the day.

The side effects aren’t readily discussed.  I don’t like feeling dull.  I think I’d rather be depressed.  At least I’m feeling something.  And I don’t think it’s just a coincidence that I’ve gained a few pounds in the last few months that I can’t take off no matter how much I diet or exercise.  I’m beginning to look like I’m pregnant.  And I don’t like the look, or the feel.

Besides, I’m already addicted to sugar and fat.  I don’t want to add to the list.  At least I can get those OTC. 😉😄

🤣  Yeah, it does have that effect on one.

I don’t listen to talk radio on the weekends, so I’m not sure what’s on here.  I do know there’s a gun show on Saturdays.  They advertise you can be on either side of the gun debate, but I’m not sure the pacifists would stand much chance if any called in.

Your mention of Peter O’Toole got me thinking: I have “Lawrence Of Arabia” in the DVR.  I decided to put in on finally.  Good thing for a rainy day.

Better than talk radio...😉🐾👍

@geezerette

That's what I hear from my patients.  They stop taking their meds because they don't want to feel like zombies.  I took melatonin once and felt like my head was stuffed with cotton.

I think there's something healthy about wanting to feel something other than the "dullness."  I understand the need to stabilize moods, but to me it's too much like living in Hawaii.  I need some snow in my life from time to time.

Which we had -- on the way home from the kibble store.  More like snain.  Either way, it was just what I needed.

Oh -- and that's another thing I heard on the radio today.  Junk food leads to anxiety and depression.  Time to update the DSM again: Nacho Cheese is a diagnosis.
