My amazing neighbor has been on a mission to clear out her garage, and ordered a 1800JUNK truck for tomorrow, is holding a garage sale in our adjacent driveways next week, and has ordered a truck to pick up what doesn't sell. AND, did I want to participate? Do I ever! So I tore through my mess to pull out the junk for tomorrow, and started the process of selecting and cleaning stuff up for a garage sale.
I've been thinking about doing a garage sale for, well, a long time. But having all the bases covered, an dsomebody else organizing it all, has moved me off the dime. If I make any money at the sale, great. if not, there's the donation truck coming. Now that's what I call fun.
I'm chuffed!

I love that!

Kiddos decided not to go to the store with us last weekend after all, so the most exotic thing I bought was a container of strawberries. My younger son has eaten a few of them. My older son at least tried a small piece of one but that's as far as he's gotten. I'm still struggling with their pickiness. I tried a new recipe the other night because I'm so tired of making the same thing over and over and my younger son wouldn't eat it because there was ketchup on it. Ketchup! I totally forgot that he doesn't eat ketchup. That's the kind of nonsense I'm dealing with. So you can see why rutabagas are out.
@just bee-I got to Rite Aid and picked up a couple of the Wet N Wild liners this past week, I haven't tried them yet but I will soon. Bargain price of $.99, and they're long! They'll last forever if they're any good.
@KaySD-awesome deal with the garage sale! I used to have them every few years but I got so tired of all the work involved to make a few bucks. And since we moved to our new house we're set really far off the road, back in the woods, and it's just not a really convenient area to have a sale. So now as I accumulate stuff I just donate it. No fussing with sales, but they can be fun, especially if your neighbor is doing the bulk of the work! Have fun!
I understand hypnotism can be effective.
You are getting hungry. You are getting verrrrrry hungry....
That's when you slide the Brussels sprouts under their noses.
Will they eat cherries? Tell them they can spit the pits at each other. Outside, of course.
They sound like tough nuts. Will they eat cashews? Guacamole?
Are they open to bribery? A crisp twenty-dollar bill can be enticing....
Uh, not to eat, of course, but as a reward for trying something. Like a Cara Cara.

So you’re saying that there’s something is wrong with eating an entire loaf of bread, followed by an entire box of cookies?😋🙀🤢 I’ve done that many times—quite recently, in fact. Brioche bread and shortbread cookies.😋
Seriously, I too have discovered that I’m one of those people that have problems with carbs. But not just any carbs, processed carbs. Bread, even those that have all the good seeds and whole grains, make me want to eat more carbs. Beans, cooked from scratch—not at all. Potato chips drive me to scarf sweets, but real potatoes don’t trigger that response. Real food has real nutrients.
If I can stay away from the processed/junk-type foods long enough, they don’t even taste good to me anymore. But that’s the key. Those foods are so easy—they’re readily available in the store (too much so), easy to grab, and they’re also being shoved down our throats everywhere, everyday. Very tough to resist.

@just bee-No cherries, no cashews, no guacamole. See what I'm working with here? I keep telling them life would be so much more interesting if they'd expand their taste buds a bit. They're missing out on so much good stuff. It's like talking to a brick wall. I haven't tried bribery yet though. I'll have to think about that..........

@just bee-I also forgot to mention, I tried one of the Wet N Wild liners yesterday. While it didn't glide on quite as easily as I had hoped, it did seem to hold up pretty well. I'm going to wear it again today and see how it holds up for an all day wear. If it doesn't smear or wear off under my eye we might have a winner!
@geezerette-nope, I don't run screaming from the room. You guys are funny, I love it! Tickles my funny bone for sure!

Boy, they are tough nuts to crack! I guess you can only do what you can only do. Kids are notorious for being picky. Some outgrow it, some never do. I suppose you can just try limiting the junk and sweets at home and feed them as much decent food as they’ll tolerate and have to let the rest go.
As as the old saying goes, “Kids will grow up in spite of everything!”🤞🏻

I think my carb situation has improved in that I don't reach for the bread, cookies and tortilla chips anymore. I get my carbs directly from Amstel Light. And I'm not giving up linguine. If pasta's good enough for Sophia Loren, it's good enough for me.
Holy macaroni -- a girl after my own heart.

Now that worries me. To me, it's like silk. That must mean that the retro red duo from Maybelline that I've been married to for decades is even worse than I thought. It's like mortar wrapped in wood. I'm surprised I haven't carved out crevices around my eyes.
Wait a minute... maybe those aren't wrinkles... ![]()

How old are these boys? Haven't they discovered those things called -- or what we used to call -- girls?
It's the number one fact of life: Girls judge men by the meals they provide. These boys better start learning to shop for food and cook -- and they better be able to recognize a quality caper when they see one.
I don't think girls are learning this stuff anymore -- heck, they can't even sign a form in cursive. What are they going to do when they buy a house and have to sign their name (and soul away) on stacks and stacks of paper?
Someone has to know what to do with the kitchen. My mother was a great cook but it was because she was taught by a Tuscan neighbor after her mother died during the Depression. But she maintained all her life that her brothers were all much better cooks.
Quickest way to a girl's heart? Food. Wait 'til they meet girls who like to eat.
