Yesterday I decluttered and organized the pants in my closet. I tried on all of the ones I hadn't been wearing, because I didn't know which were too big or too small. Six pairs were too tight in varying degrees. On the hanger for each tight pair, I attached a note with the date and a remark about how the pants fit, tight in tummy, butt looks bad, can't zip, etc. Four pairs were too big, so they went into the donate pile.
About two years ago I lost 30 lbs., but gradually gained 10 of them back. It's been a battle, but I got them back off plus two more, so now I'm down 32 lbs. from my top weight. My BMI is 31.8, which is pretty close to getting out of the obese zone. It was 37.1 at my top weight. When I get into the too tight pants, I'll have more big pairs to get rid of.

Well, I just threw away a whole lotta stuff! But none of it was mine. Got home from work this morning and had to pick up and pitch all my neighbors' garbage and recyclables that ended up in my yard. ![]()
It's like purging and exercising at the same time.

I really take that whole BMI thing with a grain of salt. I suspect you're not obese at all. Unless, of course, you're three feet tall.

I'm obese for sure, even just going by the weight and my size. The BMI is just a way to indicate how overweight one is considering both weight and height. I'm 5'5", but someone who's 4'10" and weighs what I weigh would be morbidly obese. But a BMI can't really be exact without knowing the muscle mass to fat ratio.

@just bee-bummer about having to pick up all the neighbors trash! It's bad enough when you have to pick up your own.
I'm meeting someone from a local animal rescue later this morning to drop off a few items for a garage sale fundraiser that they are having. I wanted to make it worth the trip so I found a few more small items to add to the box. It wasn't a lot, a soap dish, an apple slicer, a book, a few small beanie babies, a toy, 4 christmas cups and saucers. I wanted to find some more but I worked the last 2 days and just didn't have the energy to go around looking for more things after work. I'll have try to remember for next year to save my items and get in touch with them before I donate to somewhere else.
I'm also going to try to drop off a couple very small bags of clothes to the Underground Railroad while I'm out. They don't want clothes at the garage sale.
I'm going to try to get some more information about this animal rescue. All I really know is that it's a local group of all volunteers trying to save animals from being euthanized. I've been donating to the Humane Society, the ASPCA, etc for years and I have to say, I was really turned off when I read that their CEO's make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. I was also turned off by the recent harrassment scandel with the Humane Society CEO. So I haven't been donating to those groups lately. I appreciate all the good these big groups can do and what they can accomplish but I'd like to support local efforts too.

You've donated to the Humane Society and ASPCA? So you're the culprit! Your dollars are probably going directly to those godawful TV commercials that make me sprint out of the room.
I donate to various causes and over the years I've realized that giving to local organizations makes more sense to me than giving to the "big" guys.
Who still fill my inbox and mailbox with requests. And often support things I do not.

@just bee- Guilty! Those ASPCA ads on TV are heartbreaking and like you, I hate to watch them. But I would still give on occasion. After doing some research I'm not sure how much I want to support them, a lot of the money goes to advertising (duh) and big salaries for the CEO's. I don't have a lot and I'd like what I give to actually go to helping the animals so I was happy to find this local rescue. I don't know anything about it though, so we'll see.
I get tons of stuff in my mailbox too because of it, some days I'll have 4-5 solicitations from various organizations and nothing else. Frustrating.

Oh, the irony.
Several of the local organizations I support have thrift shops that raise quite a bit of money. Then I come here and write about cutting back on shopping.
But at least now I can take what I have to these shops and someone who needs the items can benefit. Unless, of course, the employees take the good stuff before it ever hits the shelves.
Must be in a cynical mood this morning.
At any rate, the donation pile is growing. Better-half has pulled most of the linen from the linen closet. I'd rather have that go to the no-kill shelter where they can use it as bedding for the rescued animals.

Oh man, that Sarah Mclachlan ad was legendary! I had to leave the room when it came on. Even The Old Geezer, a world-reknown cynic, used to change the channel when he heard that.
I quit giving to the large organizations quite a while ago. I remember when I became a member of the Audubon Society and got their magazine. The whole thing was either ads or tours, relatively little about the actual birds themselves. That was my one contribution to them and years later I’m still getting solicitations from them.
My one exception to the large rescues is Best Friends. I do support them. I’m sure a lot of their funding doesn’t go directly to the animals themselves, but to administration, and that is one of the big problems with large organizations.
I give most most of my donations to our local shelter. And like @just bee, I figure some of my better cast-offs are probably snapped up by the volunteers. But that’s okay with me.
Although I am getting ready to tackle some of The Old Geezer’s clothes in the next few weeks (something I haven’t been able to bring myself to do quite yet), and I think some of the better items will probably go to our local Goodwill instead of the shelter.

Yeah, I used to donate to Best Friends, too, and always thought about stopping by on my way through Utah. Except I haven't made that trip to Utah yet.
I feel like I'm in a bit of a rut or funk right now. Woke up irritable and I can't shake it. I have a hair appointment and I'm sure a new haircut will only makes things worse.
I've already decided that I'm coming home after the appointment and watching Little League championship games all day.
