Why, all of YOU who come here and share your lives with us!

Thank you...😘🙃

As many times as I have read "appreciative April" in this month's thread, as I glanced at this post, I saw "accumulative April" 😳 !  Must be my guilty conscience since I have been accumulating new (unneeded) skin care products. 😔

On a positive note, I have tossed many empties ths month and have also finally given myself permission to toss beauty products I hate, rather than forcing myself to use them up.  I never would have been able to to that without you ladies.  😊

Oh, good!  Maybe you can convince me to take this BB cream back to Costco.

You can TAKE IT BACK??  Then, absolutely, do it!  Otherwise, it will become one more unwanted product hanging over your head...👻

Well, that's my understanding.  I ordered it from Costco.com and they say you can return it either by mail or in person at the warehouse.  I'm leaning in that direction.

I want to give it a chance, but it's just not making a good first impression.  It actually might be appropriate for New Mexico.  The stuff looks and feels like stucco.

@just bee

If I can return the Clarisonic I bought after I decided not to use a Clarisonic anymore, you can get your hiney over to Costco and return that goo.  Unless, that is, you've decided to learn Japanese.

Or save yourself the time and trouble and just buy more of it and redo the house.

Since we don't have stucco (the house is brick), this goo has to go.

Re: ComPact 2017 – Appreciative April!

Whoa, I just checked in cause it's the last day of April and am delighted to see all the stimulating discussions going on!  Amen, ditto, and repeat to everything that was said!  I was just telling DD, be careful of falling into the "it's greener on the other side".  There's a reason that thy shall not covet thy neighbor's_____________ is a sin.  If I could just be content with what I have, surely my jealous little eyes would be at peace.  What kind of nonsense do we commit when we just have to have what so-and-so has?  What kind of evil judgemental thoughts run through our minds....

As for women working in their households, tending to the nest and raising the children, I think they had one of the most important jobs in the world.  Training and raising up Responsible citizens.

As for holding onto to things, in Hawaii, people have lived through dock strikes on the West Coast which shut down the ships bringing in all kinds of goods.  My parents and grandparents always had a stockpile of toilet paper and other papergoods because of their experience with the docks shutting down.  I feel like there's a hoarding mentality here because we are so dependent on the "mainland".

For my April use-it-up total, I finished/decluttered $315 worth of products.  Of that total, I really only "needed" $128 of products.  I decluttered (gave away or threw away without finishing) $148 worth of products. And the final $39 were products that I finished and enjoyed but were unnecessary.  My decluttered total was especially high because I finally came to terms with products that were irritating my skin, but I was trying to make them work out before.  Keep in mind that I don't need $128 of products every month, it was just what I finished in this month, but that sure is mind-boggling to me. I'm going to keep doing this every month to remind myself, as @just beesaid, that I really need to ask myself if I really need this AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE.

I also went back to try out the Complexion Rescue and see if it was irritating my skin or not.  Today was a cold 66 degrees!  We are having a cold front with lots of rain.  Surprisingly, the foundation worked out well today.  I skipped SPF since I wasn't going outside and the foundation has SPF 20 in it.  I think the combination of cold weather and less products (no additional sunscreen) did the trick.  I'm going to try and finish this product up but once it's done, I'm through with foundations.  I'm going to rely on my HG skin.

Yes, we do become our parents.  Sometimes we become our grandparents.

After this disappointing experience with a BB cream that does not perform even half as well as a drugstore product (Lumene), I was ready to give up foundation, too.  The thought of auditioning a dozen tubes of goo just doesn't sound like fun.

I was watching What Ever Happened to Baby Jane yesterday.  I had DVR'd it when it was on TCM recently because I'd watched that series (Feud) about Davis and Crawford.

Do you recall the scene where Bette Davis is reciting her Baby Jane material and she steps forward and catches a glimpse of herself in the mirror?  She lets out this horrified scream and covers her face with her hands.

Baby Jane BB Cream

That was me in the bathroom yesterday when I caught a glimpse of this BB cream on my face.

Today is the day.  This goop gets one more chance before I bid it a fond adieu.  Yesterday I smeared Ponds all over my face before I applied the BB cream.  That didn't work.  Today I'll use jojoba as a base before I try this one last time.

How can this stuff be so bad???

Resourceful and responsible.  You make an excellent point.  I work with psychiatric patients of all ages and what concerns me is the lack of resourcefulness and responsibility.  Whether a patient is 16 or 60, they have no coping skills.  They cannot function out there.  They want decisions made for them and they want someone else to take care of them.

Sometimes I feel the whole country's going in that direction.

Re: ComPact 2017 – Appreciative April!

I too have really enjoyed the conversation. On each topic, there is so much to discuss.  I agree with all.

Just Bee, I have given up on finding a bb cream/cc cream for now and even on trying to make my own.  These days, I dont even make it out the door without everything melting off. And this is with the air running.  The last thing I need to worry about is looking patchy by the time I get to work. I may skip moisturizer in the morning too and maybe just keep a jar at work if I need it. I would like some sunshine but am not looking forward to the heat.

I would take back the bb cream if it doesnt work for you. I know Costco's like to know if products work or not. It helps them with future buying. I had to take a fan back, felt a bit guilty as I dont like to return things anymore, but the girl said they like to know when customers dont like something.

It is May 1st.  I cant believe it.

@aprilskies

You mean you aren't going to buy the super-size (2.53-ounce) tube of IT Cosmetics Full Coverage SPF 50?

Someone posted about it so I checked out the size and price.  For ten minutes I thought about it.

Curse you, Lumene!  It was so nice not having to even think about CC cream.

See, now I have the opposite problem.  We don't have humidity here -- even though the last couple days were rainy.  It's dry and so am I.  Another thread suggested that jojoba is a cure for creases.  I have to say that I smeared jojoba on my face this morning before I tried that mortar BB cream.

It helped.

Now I just have to figure out if it's worth keeping.  I can't see how I'll keep the light formula if the medium is so Baby Jane.

Baby Jane BB Cream

Now I have to decide on an adjective for May and start the new thread.

Re: ComPact 2017 – Appreciative April!

@Oshare-girl, you totally rocked this April!

You also said, "If I could just be content with what I have, surely my jealous little eyes would be at peace."

So, you know what to do, right? Choose contentment. Then choose it again the next minute, and the next, and the next....

Once you've chosen contentment, you can then do whatever you want! Because contentment was what you wanted from those other things, right?

Woo-hoo! Great way to finish April, girl.

Re: ComPact 2017 – Appreciative April!

@justbee, I know it's not April any longer, but I just read your reply to my last, and I want you to know, I can't understand a universe in which you are not my neighbor, or colleague, or fellow whatever. I keep thanking you for your insights, persistence, and downright good sense, and I'm doing it again right now. (Of course, it seems you and I agree on many things, so it's only natural that I find you brilliant (duh)...Smiley LOL)

Anyway, I can see we could talk for hours about responsibility and choice and cabbages and kings, but here it is, May, and I'll save it for the Mayhem that emerges.

Here's what I've been thinking about: if I could manage to only focus on what I want, and not pay attention to anything I'm resisting or disliking, then I think everything in my reality would change. Maybe not instantly--this is Planet Earth--but soon.

And in the Compacting world, that translates, I suspect, into 'how wonderful it is that I have what I have' rather than 'how I can resent and get rid of what I have'. Not, mind you, that I won't get rid of stuff I have, just that I will focus on how great I feel about the stuff, and then choose to keep or get rid of it with perfect equanimity.

Dare I say it? What the decision is, is UNimportant. What matters is the place within me that did the deciding. Not very grammatically graceful, but you know what I mean, I hope.

Cheers for May!
