No, they don't, and many kids aren't interested in our history.  I have talked to my kids about Mr. Krafsner and about my mother's first husband.  Before they married, he was a pilot in WWII and a tough, brave man.  He was awarded many medals for his actions, including a Purple Heart.  My older brother (his son) has the medals.  He saved men in his squadron after their plane crashed.  Later, he was captured and held in a camp.  Somehow, he escaped, and an Italian family hid him until he was able to arrange a way out that was safe for him and this family.  My mother never recorded any of this, so it all comes from memory.  After the war, he finished school and became a doctor.  He died from cancer when my brothers were very young.  My mom thought he was exposed to something during the war.  I sure he was.  Probably when he was held in the camp.  The pictures of him and my mother are beautiful.  She looked like a pin up girl, and he looked like a Hollywood actor.

That's a great story.  Families have these kinds of stories and they're lost forever because it occurs to us much too late how really wonderful and valuable they are.  I figured out much too late that I should have written down everything my mother used to say about her Italian immigrant family.  When I finally realized the error and started pumping her for information, dementia had taken over and most of her memories were lost.

Take notes while you can, my friends...

I am sure many families have beautiful stories of challenges, sacrifice, and hope.  This is the only story I know.  I sure there were others, but my family was not the kind that passed along these treasures.  If there was any part that was embarrassing or not so pretty, then they kept it locked away like a terrible secret.

Yes, but there was a time when that was the norm.  Families didn't air their dirty laundry.  Now it's practically the law to do so.  Your kids will have lots of stories!

Justbee, you really need to go to HH Gregg's or Best Buy's website.  The prices are amazing.  What a perfect time to buy a new television!

@Picture this: Three people who hate to go shopping and haven't been to a mall in years went out yesterday and a TV was purchased.  I figured we needed to pick up a couple items at Costco for the antipasto snack we were putting together, so why not buy the TV and get it over with while the @#$%^& things were still in stock?

I committed to a 65-inch VIZIO E-Series.  Fine.  And now the nightmare begins.  We scoured Albuquerque last night during the crazy shopping rush (we were all traumatized -- it was too much like the original Night of the Living Dead... They're coming to get you, Bah-brah...@) and we could not find a single TV stand that would be appropriate.  MADNESS, I tell you.  We've been online ever since, hunting.  I'm looking at stands that cost as much as the @#$%^& TV!!!  This is insanity!  And there are so few made to hold a 65-inch set.  The horror.

This@ is what is going to happen.  The TV is going to sit in the @#$%^& box until we can find a @#$%^& stand, and then when we finally get the @#$%^& TV out of the box we're going to discover a problem and it will be too late to return the @#$%^& thing!

You might have to buy a TV console cabinet.  Yes, they are more than the TVs.

@That's it.  Where's the @#$%^& rope?

Well, I reorganized my spare room today (my hoarding room).  It was a real eye opener.  I shouldn't buy another beauty item for years.  I have way too much stuff and need to get back on the program of clearing out items.

Just Bee, I even have too much tea.  LOL

I pruned my collection finally, but now I have some varieties that I really don't care for.  I'm going to pawn these off on Better-half's mother when she heads home...  (I'm turning into dosey's MIL.)

At least BH's mother can toss them if she doesn't like/want them and not have to worry about displaying them when you visit.  LOL

I read on these boards that you should run your Kitchenaid mixer for a few minutes about once a month to keep the grease mixed up in the gears.  Some people said they had some leaking when they finally did use theirs.  People on the boards stated that you shouldn't let it sit for long periods of time without running it.  I usually run mine for about five or six minutes each month.

Wow.  It's a mixer, not a Maserati.  Why is everything so complicated? Woman Frustrated

Really, just LOL. I bought a kitchenaid stand mixer which I have never used. My goal in 2016 is to learn how to use the d$m thing. So, I am hoping 5 years later it actually works.  Not the same as a tv but this made me lol. I wont even mention the other appliances that are laying in wait.

Good luck with it.  65 inch is pretty nice. Enjoy.

I have a KA mixer that is 16 yo.  I love that thing!  It is one of the best purchases I've ever made.  Get yours out and use it.  It is cookie season!! Smiley Happy

Are you taking it to Jiffy Lube?

We bought our Christmas tree today.  As sticking with tradition, we picked a rainy day for the outing.  The nice thing is that we heard "We Need a Little Christmas" on the radio.  My family laughed at me when I couldn't remember the lyrics and had to add Da Da Dee Da Da.

I'm looking forward to December so we can start posting our favorite (and least favorite?) Christmas music.

@marky, thanks.  I heard about the grease issue but thought it was only when you initially ran it.  Didnt realize it was a monthly maintenance gig.  Well, at this point, I just have to accept what it is. All I have ever done was take it out of the box. So, keeping my fingers crossed that it works.  Half my problem is that I dont have a big kitchen and cant leave it on the counter so it is not as convenient to use.  It is too heavy to keep carrying back and forth.  I always imagined lost toes.  I will just run some flour and water or something at first and check out the grease issue. I think this is happening only on the later models.  They never make anything the same.

I will give it a try soon.  Maybe this is what I will make as one of my hobbies in 2016.  just learning to use my appliances and trying different recipes. There is a novel idea.

Yes, me too.  I grew up on it.  I actually cut my cable last December, hoping to stop watching so much but having Netflix and HBOgo is probably worse.  I have toyed being one of those non Tv people and am not quite sure I can do it.  Good luck with your search if you are searching.

@Do you know where they're hiding all the @#$%^& TV stands?

I am surprised they are not around.  Have you considered hanging it?

No, but I have considered hanging myself.  At this point, becoming a non-TV person would be less stressful.  Is this like the whole thing about buying a pack of hot dogs and a pack of buns and they have a different number in each?  You buy a TV and the stands are too small?  Who decided this?

The same ones who decided to cut down the ounces on the cake baking mixes when all the recipes are based on the bigger size  They are drinking something out there.

FindingmyJoy,  my Black Friday shopping got out of control.  The sales and extra % off just got me good.  I didn't go out though, it was all online.  I was gonna go out and just walk around later in the day but never made it. The rest of the year I am just allowing gifts and i do need some tops and shoes but will only buy a few that I need.

I had two auto deliveries. I cancelled Wen and kept my isomers immortal which I pushed out until Feb.  I have just a little bit left from the bottle I have now and want to see if I notice a diff when I stop using it.  I wasnt sure if my eyes looked better because of this product or because I was really moisturizing them consistently, which I wasnt doing before. This purchase was perfect for that reason alone.

For 2016, it has become clear that I need to set a strict budget and goal not only per month but for the year. I need to put some thought into this and figure out what that looks like, for all categories.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

We'll be here for ya in 2016!

Thank you.  I will need it.  It is amazing how hard this is for me.  This is just as hard as quitting smoking.  I gave that up 16 years ago.

If you could give up smoking, you'll be able to ComPact!

______________

It is crazy, it feels just as hard.  When I quit smoking, I pretty much avoided most of my trigger points, well the ones I could anyway.  I will need to stay out of stores and stop browzing sites. I can do it.
