Today might be the perfect day to get the TV and TV stand out of their boxes.  (Yup.  Still in the boxes.  I'm worried that they may be in pieces.)

Sipping some cranberry tea.  I passed on the last big tea sale and wouldn't you know -- the same offer has been emailed to me again.  I might bite this time (30% off and free shipping is tempting, considering tea is a staple item and I'll have to order it eventually).

Weird day yesterday.  I was at work Thursday night and thought I'd look at my pay stub.  I never check it on pay day because I assume it is what it is.  This one was different.  I received tuition reimbursement for one of my classes.  Three times.  Probably not enough to get me and the dog to Belize, but it was a significant amount of money.

Drove home, called HR and spoke with several people.  Won't go into the convoluted solution -- what I had to do to fix their mistake -- but I hope it's fixed.  What was strange was that I was thanked repeatedly for being honest.  It had never occurred to me not to immediately report the mistake.  But they said it was something that would have easily slipped through the cracks.

Isn't it sad that they would be surprised that you reported the mistake? It's a sad state of our world when doing the right thing is a surprise. I would have done the same thing by reporting it asap. I know if I would have kept the extra money that I wouldn't have gotten any joy from it.

I have my routine eye exam tonight to use my insurance benefits for the year. The store is at the mall....I'm telling myself that I'm going for the exam and then running for the mall exit. I don't need anything at the mall. I know that I could be tempted by the Bath and Body Works store.....they had their great sale on their candles earlier this month....I forced myself to ignore it. I still have 10 of their jumbo candles to use. But gosh darn it! I really really really wanted to go to that sale. LOL. Then I'm thinking, I haven't bought ANY of their new seasonal scents for the holidays - maybe I'm missing out? How can I possibly make it thru the entire holiday without getting a new Vanilla Bean Noel shower gel since I haven't had it since last year? Maybe it's a sign that I should just treat myself and open a different shower gel in my stash so it feels like I got something new? LOL I've been trying to use up a jumbo Philosophy gel that still smells great but I really want to hit bottom on it since it's been lingering in my shower for months already.

I applied for the questionable job last night.  The link from the jobs website took me to the company's website.  They had a lot of job openings.  Another bad sign.  I'll applied anyway.  Who knows?  They might not even call.

The sixth box of knick knacks arrived from my MIL.  She paid UPS to pack it.  Must have cost more than the things are worth.  All that was in the box were three plates (2 from France and 1 from Japan - very tourist-y) and a vase that just screams Wal-Mart.  A piece of the price sticker was still on the vase.  Meanwhile, I spoke with my MIL and found out that she told another son that he could come to her house and pick out whatever he wanted.  (He lives within a day's drive.)  She said his car was full when he left.  I wondered what happened to the good stuff.  My husband has said many times that this brother is his mother's favorite, and he is.  I have seen proof many times.  Very hurtful.

I am going to Barnes and Noble now to pick up the book.  The store is across from the mall.  Oh boy.

I think it's great that you took the leap to apply for the job. Sometimes that's the hardest thing to do!

Who knows maybe the other son "thinks" he got the valuable stuff but he missed the Walmart stickers on them? Maybe try to look at it as at least the stuff he took can't be shipped to you to cause you cluttering worries? Please don't let it cause bad feelings in the family...when my grandma moved into a nursing home, the "favorite" daughter and her husband raided the house. It caused serious bad blood that has lingered many years. No, my grandma didn't have a house packed full of valuables but the thought that the couple would feel it was ok to go in and clear out what they wanted was just beyond rude. They had apparently told grandma that they would use her car...ummm yeah they took the car and we never saw it again. We all assumed they sold it asap and we've seen them still driving their old one.

Wow!  People can be so selfish.  If I did something like that, I could not live with myself.

My oldest cousin actually took all of my grandmother's jewelry BEFORE my grandmother died and had it remade into jewelry my cousin liked.  My grandmother told me about it but did not want to confront her.  This was her favorite grandchild.  Every time we visited my grandmother when I was a child, we couldn't avoid seeing all of the pictures of my cousin on the walls.  And this cousin has a sister.  Think of how she feels.  We knew she received more than the other grandchildren for every occasion, including a car and piano.  Everyone else got $10, except for my cousin's sister.  She received $20.  Ha ha!  I can laugh about it now.  After my cousin took the jewelry, my grandmother removed all of her pictures from the walls.

Regarding my BIL, I do not let him bother me, but my husband does.  He became really agitated when he found out that my BIL took the bookshelf my husband made for his parents in high school shop class.  That one puzzled me.  Sibling rivalry, I suppose.  My BIL has always been like this.  Always looking out for himself.  What can we do?  He'll never change. Let it go.  Let it go.

I agree.  It is sad.  What if the mistake had been caught by HR?  How would someone explain why he/she kept the money?

I used to work with a group of sales reps.  Sometimes, accounts were moved from one rep to another, but the previous rep was supposed to receive the commission on the orders he/she placed.  One time, there was a sales rep who received a big promotion.  He went from having many small and medium sized accounts to having only one huge account.  A few months after the promotion, he called me because he was not receiving his commission on some of the orders from his previous accounts, and he asked me to look into it.  I said that they were probably going to the new sales rep.  He commented that she would not allow that to happen without saying something to him.  Well, sure enough, there was a glitch in the system, and the new rep was receiving the old rep's commission.  The old rep was shocked.  I was shocked by his naivete.  These two reps worked in the same office.  I wonder how that conversation went?

Re: ComPact 2015 -- December

I may not have a working TV, but I do listen to this cable channel (DVR and receiver).  If they don't stop running these ASPCA ads my head is going to explode!  I don't have the wretched video now, but the audio -- the sound of the music, the horrible details -- is a killer!

Maybe the new TV should stay in the box.

(I better get my boy out for a walk today or he'll report this abuse and neglect to animal welfare.)
