Well bee, today we got our dog registered at the Animal Welfare place.  Then we went to the Balloon Museum.  Expecting my brother's girlfriend in for 10 days starting Thursday.  She will stay at her Mom's or friends home-not sure.  We will go to Sandia Casino on Sunday and during the next week she is showing me how to do the "whole green chili thing."   Have got to find work soon. DH getting very antsy-not too worried, but concerned.  I don't think we will do too much more until we start working.

Whoa -- gotta stop you right there.  Chili is a bowl of meat and beans; chile is the dazzling green pepper that is roasted and added to cheeseburgers and just about everything else one can consume in this state.  Green chile stew.  Noms.  Green chile cheese bread.  Noms again.  Green chile tuna casserole.  Green chile breakfast burrito.  Soon the scent of roasted peppers will fill the air.  If you buy them and want to prepare them for freezing, WEAR GLOVES!!!  Hatch green chile is being replaced in many Whole Foods stores by Pueblo (non-New Mexican product) chile and I'll have to give Mr. Mackey a call and a piece of my mind.  Hatch green chile is one of the few things we have here that we can brag about. A BIG congratulations on sticking to your August goal!  I know how hard it is to have to shut off the tv and walk away from the computer!

Update on the job situation:  I haven't heard back from the place where I interviewed last Thursday.  But, I wasn't expecting to hear for probably a week anyway.

Today, I had a first interview at a long term care facility and I loved it.  I hope it's in the Lord's plan that I get that job.  The people with whom I interviewed were fantastic and the "team" seems to be very supportive of each other.  I'm not expecting to hear from that one for a few days - possibly not until early next week because the Administrator is away.

Fingers crossed!

Oh - and another good thing for today is that I used up another bottle of Wen and opened one from my stash.  One less in the stash!  However, I'm planning on buying a gallon in September and those are harder to hide  Cat Tongue

Those people sound like us on the Compact!  I think people here are so supportive.  No bashing or mean-talk.

Yay for one less!

Hearing about Brenda810's job hunt made me think, wouldn't it be awesome if I could Compact myself out of the need to work outside of the home?  I would love to be a stay-at-home mom.

This sounds like something worth investigating.  There's something to be said about home.  I've been checking on the barn owls and now that the kids are gone, guess who's decided to come home?

There's no place like home.

Hi everyone!

Can you believe it's approaching the middle of August?  Sigh.  Winter's almost here. LOL

I have to give myself a pat on the back.  Monday was my birthday and I "allow" myself to buy myself anything I want on my birthday (well, and usually most other days too...lol).  But, I was up in the mountains of Vermont farrrrrrrr away from Ulta or any department stores so I didn't buy any of my usual weaknesses - body products or makeup.  I did buy some consumable maple goodies (maple syrup, maple cotton candy) and a new popcorn bowl.  Actually, my hubby bought me the popcorn bowl as a present from our furbabies.  The last thing I need is another bowl. But, this one can be dual purposed since it has a handle and a spout.  So, it can be my popcorn bowl or a batter bowl!  The only problem is now finding a space for it in a cabinet.

I hope everyone is having a good day.  Dosey - I hope your DS recovers quickly and painlessly from his oral surgery.

Oh - one more thing - I have a job interview tomorrow at 4pm (EST) so would everyone please be so kind as to send a prayer or good thoughts my way for a successful interview?  I would have to take a pay cut of up to $2,000-4,000/yr. but it would be about 20-30 minutes less commute and I'm hoping the benefits are better than where I am.

Thank you!

Happy birthday!!!  DS only had one painful day and then felt much better.

Best of luck finding a new job!

Brenda810 - Good luck with your interview, a pay cut for less of a comute is worth it, just think of the time you gain everyweek.  Again, good luck, you will do well,  Please let us know how it goes.

A while a go someone asked how this thread affected out spending  - I find myself thinking about my purchases more carefully and I have not bought as much as I used to.  Saying that, I did break down and buy a Dooney as is purse.  I kept looking at this purse last year and then it sold out, so I don't know what this bag will look like when I get it.  Hopefully, it is not badly damaged.  Guess if it a flop I will be saving money by not keeping it.  We will see.

Hope everyone has a great afternoon.

I've never ordered an as is bag but have read that they are usually in very good condition.  Have you received yours?

Hilda has passed us without any impact!  Halleleuia!  Sometimes we can get the "Peter & the Wolf" mentality hearing about all these potential hurricanes that end up blowing themselves out.  But we know from past experiences that it only takes one big hurricane to leave lasting effects.  So we are prepared.  Thanks for well wishes!

Dosey, funny you mention the UD Naked Basics2 palette.  I'm working on the first Basics palette and finally hit pan on one shadow this week.  Hurray!  It took about 7 weeks to hit pan on it.  I like that these truly are basics and is relatively small, not one of those mega palettes that lead to decision paralysis.  I can mix in other more shimmery or darker colors to use with it so I've been using it everyday.  I don't know how the Basics2 is, but this one is strange.  The 3 lightest colors are very firmly packed while the 3 darker colors are so powdery.  I think that's how I hit pan so quickly on one of them.  I just touch my brush in it and tons of powder is let loose.  Hope the Basics2 palette is more consistent.  I hope to hit pan on 4 of the colors before the end of the year.  I believe I bought it in 2013 so this is on it's last hurrah and will be tossed at the end of the year.

I was able to NOT go to Costco this week.  Instead I shopped for one week's worth of groceries at Safeway and it was just right!  My fridge is practically empty.  It's kinda scary.

Good to hear that Hilda did not cause any problems for you.

I have been a SAHM for many years.  While I really enjoyed raising my kids and always being there for them, there are pros and cons to being a SAHM.  You know what those are, but I want to tell you what I have found to be the biggest con.  It is being completely dependant on someone else to provide for me.  I have reached the point where I am very uncomfortable with being this vulnerable and want to be able to take care of myself.  Also, if something happens where you need a second income, you would not have it.  If you do decide to become a SAHM, have a plan that allows you to maintain your work skills.  Also, if you want to stay home for many years, I highly recommend working in some way on a part-time or temporary basis because the longer you stay home, the harder it will be to find a good job when you decide to return to the workforce.  Keeping your work skills current is imperative.  You won't regret it.  Smiley Happy

Oshare-girl - Glad to hear it passed without impacting you!

My Chicago trip is already over! It was the fastest week ever. Why oh why does 5 days of vacation fly by but 5 days at work feels like 10 if not more? LOL. Chicago really impressed me with their stellar museums - Art Institute was amazing!!!! I sort of went overboard....was there when they opened at 1030am and didn't leave until 730pm!! But I fully enjoyed seeing my favorite Monet!!! The Field Museum was also great and the Shedd Aquarium....Lincoln Park Zoo was fun....the food was awesome! Glad I brought my stretchy shorts LOL. I logged over 20,000 steps each day since I was walking everywhere so I think it helped even out the calories consumed Smiley LOL It was perfect walking weather too. After debating for a long time if I was going to go or not, super glad that I did! I would go back!

Compacting skills surprisingly were used on the trip! I've always had the habit of buying a tshirt each vacation so I have tons of them that are sitting in my closet not used. With that fresh in my mind, I didn't buy a tshirt this trip! I did buy a cute Christmas tree ornament that is a tradition for me. I LOVE putting up my tree each year and getting to go down memory lane while putting up the ornaments. I know I will enjoy the ornament for years to come unlike a tshirt that would have added to that collection.

I'm not flogging...just confessing....ISOMERS got me. But, I was very good and stuck to the items I knew I was waiting for - the Vitamin C-Stem. I did buy multiples of the kit but my thought process is this should last me several months if not a year which means I'm all set for C items which will cancel out temptation to try another line. I didn't get drawn into trying a lot of other stuff because of stellar deals and combos, so overall, I call it a win.

Nice trip!!  The only time I have been to Chicago was on business, and I did not see anything.

We have something in common.  I buy a Christmas ornament whenever I go to a new state or country.  Ornaments are the only things I collect.  Love them!
