I can so relate to looking at purchasing things I don't need. I still am a shopper, checking all my favorite web sites every single day. When I have to pick up a prescription, I have to check all the beauty items in that aisle on my way to the pharmacy. I can look on line for hours, which is a waste of time in itself. I don't see this going away but am, thankfully, able to think about it before I purchase and remind myself that I have the same thing at home in my stash. Good luck, ladies.

I'm good at not buying things I don't need. My problem is that I convince myself (or allow Dimitri to convince me) that I need all sorts of beauty products I can live without!

I finally recognized that fact & I am no longer even opening threads about SKINN and I am not checking ShopHQ to see what products are there. This is much better for me. I am not buying things.

Thank you ladies for being such a great support system. I have been diligently going through stuff. I have gotten rid of bagfuls. Any clothing will be going to missions but I through out makeup and skin care. I only bought extra face wipes and shampoo because I won't be able to drive for 4 to 6 weeks after my surgery. I still have a lot more to do but it was a big start. I found that I had beauty items I had kept because I only used it for a little while but found something better. I don't like to waste money and I think I will use it sometime but sometime has never come. From now on I will try something at Ulta and Sephora first in person or buy from places that refund beauty items you aren't happy with like CVS and Walmart.

I also did buy some ""tube top"" dresses and tops for the month because I have to wear something to doctor checkups and when my daughter has friends over. I did get some really cute pieces for under $20 and some under $10 on Amazon.

I keep reminding myself how fortunate I am and that I don't need more. I like things neat and clean and it is harder to keep it neat with lots of stuff.

I have been hanging onto them for a few years because they no longer fit my purposes but I wanted to make sure someone got good use of of them. After all, they were not cheap. Duh! DFS was the perfect solution! They also take unused cosmetics so I took the plunge and donated my backups from the stash. Why was I even holding onto backups when I can't even finish the one?! I am learning that having a stash is not security. In fact, it's the opposite of security because I tied up all that cash in unused things. When I could have put it to other uses. I was also wearing a pair of Vince Camuto pumps that I thought were so Comfy when I bought them. Somehow over time, they changed and hurt my toes now. I was going to put them back in my shoe cabinet for a time when I don't need to actually walk around. Another duh! I always have to walk so why even keep them? I'm going to donate the to DFS because they're still in pretty good shape. Since I hated walking in them, I hardly wore them. I have also matured half a size in Clothes which I was in denial over. Why torture myself in ill-fitting outfits? I donated those slightly tight clothes to DFS also. I almost had an epiphany. I said I loved having variety that's why I had so much of everything. But really, I have my "look" and I rarely veer from it. I don't need variety. Ah, there's a little more space all over the place. I'm loving it. And loving being digit+0 too!

That really is great. I think that is such a good feeling to pare down and let things go. What a great cause.

I came to that realization to .. I hit 51 this year and was wondering why I had shoes with heels when all they did was hurt my back . The same with clothes. With age our body changes and why am i hanging on to clothes that are not even remotely comfortable. The items I realized i was really hanging on to were "designer " names and since i had spent some $$ on them I felt I coudn't just donate them.( which was so stupid, like a child ~if i cant wear them nobody can) Thankfully finally got past that and last week before I went on vacation I donated 210 items to good will and i still have some more to go.. but what a great feeling opening up my drawers ~they look so nice and tidy !!!

I found this thread during a bout of insomnia during the summer of last year and was just reading to pass the time. I was a couple pages in before the light bulb went off. This is me! I got out everything from my stash and looked at it. Really looked at it. I stopped buying body wash then ( darn philosophy for making me want every scent!) and this month was a victory. I opened the last body wash in my stash. Thank you ladies for the tip to use as hand soap or I might have been another 6 months! Reading your victories has helped me to be mindful of my shopping and am only replacing things from my stash instead of trying the next thing that doesn't work. For example, I tried a BM eye cream and did not like it, so into the stash it went. When I finished my neck cream I searched my stash and came up with this forgotten eye cream. Guess what! I loved this eye cream for the neck area! Perfect. I have also gifted unopened makeup to my niece. It was hard to gather it up, but once it was gone, I felt so free! Why, oh why, did I ever think I needed to hoard 2-3 of everything? So I just wanted to thank you lovelies for posting inspiration for all of us "lurkers" on the boards. Jeannie

We love lurkers here! {#emotions_dlg.wub}

And I hear ya on the shower gels. I haven't bought one in years and I still have a decade's worth. Or more! But they really are great as hand soap, aren't they? I'm getting ready to choose a new scent for the bathroom sink because I'm finally at the end of an ancient bottle of shower for the cure.

This is one wonderful exercise in creativity and resourcefulness. Isn't it amazing how long we can go without buying something new? We already have what we need. We just need to bring it out into the open.

What do you think of the Alegria Pesca?

I have it in pink.

Good thing they don't have a red one.

I love Alegria but cannot wear them. My feet are big, and Alegria's make them look even bigger in the toe area. I know I shouldn't be so self-conscious at my age, but I am. Because I wear flats with slim jeans, I want a pair that doesn't call attention to my feet.

Paws and enjoy life.

Dosey -- I hear ya on the basic black flat and the dark blue denim. I wore this black flat to death.

I like those shoes!
