I'm doing very well at not spending on unnecessary beauty items. I'm living by the no-see, no-temptation rule. I know what temps me online so I am staying away from presentations & even checking to see what is for sale. I don't even want to know what new products are coming out. I don't want to buy.

This is critical for me. If I do not know it exists, then I do not want it. Ignorance IS bliss! {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I mentioned that Sephora in JCP sent me a card for a free lip gloss. It was also an advertisement for new lip products in their store. When DD and I were back-to-school shopping, we stopped by. I tried the new products and liked a few but managed to leave without buying anything. Quite remarkable. I also left without the free lip gloss. Quite forgetful.

You're killin' me! {#emotions_dlg.lol}

DD wanted to have a sleepover for her last birthday. I e-mailed her friends' parents, including a few new friends, to give them the details. What did I forget? Our address! DD told me a few days ago that her friends talked about this little omission and how DD and I are so much alike. Now, obviously the parents mentioned to their kids that I forgot the address. I am embarrassed. DD said she doesn't mind being like me. She says that we both just try to do too much, and our brains get overloaded. Yeah, that's it. Brain overload.

What do you think of the Alegria Pesca?

I love Alegria but cannot wear them. My feet are big, and Alegria's make them look even bigger in the toe area. I know I shouldn't be so self-conscious at my age, but I am. Because I wear flats with slim jeans, I want a pair that doesn't call attention to my feet.

When I first started buying them their sizes were WAY off. I have a couple pairs that are enormous on me -- absolute Bozo shoes. But I still wear them. Even though I keep catching them out of the corner of my eye.

I figure as long as I don't trip I'm okay. But I do feel like I'm perched on skateboards. {#emotions_dlg.blink}

I have tripped more times than I want to admit. Yellow Box flip flops are the most hazardous shoes I own.

Paws and enjoy life.

Baby steps... It is all progress!

I wish I had more things - anything! lol... to donate. lol... I have plenty to get rid of but most of what I need to get rid of just needs to be gone through & tossed. I'm pretty sure I would not miss much if there was a disaster & I lost everything. I'm not sure if that is good or bad.

I was thinking about my purchases this year & I am clearly drawn to skincare purchases. I bought 3 SKINN skincare kits a few months back. I find SKINN so tempting I am even staying out of the threads about it!

The only makeup I have bought in recent history has been mascara & one lipstick. I go through both of those faster than anything else & actually could use more lipstick but I'm making do.

I'm pretty sure it has been a few YEARS since I bought makeup/eyeshadows/blush. I got a couple liners with a skincare kit, that kind of thing, but buying makeup alone just is not a need. My BE colors last almost forever & I have 4 partly used, still good foundations. I only wear foundation once in a while so I may never run out! {#emotions_dlg.laugh} I am pretty happy with my little BE collection & hardly ever check out new stuff online. I recently realized that I don't even watch many makeup presentations anymore. I'm not sure when that happened. I used to watch all the makeup presentation regardless of brand.

Since going through my closet the last time and donating bags of clothes and shoes, I am so much happier with my closet. There is room between the hangers. Not just a miniscule amount of space but enough space so I can separate two tops and hang another top neatly without jamming it in and hoping the rod doesn't collapse, again. My knitwear is folded neatly, too. It is very orderly.

I also realized that just like last summer I am wearing the same things over and over. So now I am making an effort to wear the things that just sit in my closet. I like everything. It all fits and is comfortable so why not wear it. I am wearing different shoes, too. If they are not comfortable all day, they will be donated. I really do not know how I amassed such a collection of flip flops. How did this happen? When did I stop wearing regular sandals? I hate the slapping noise that flip flops make. I even have flip flop wedges. No more flip flops.

Paws and enjoy life.

I was a couple pages in before the light bulb went off. This is me! I got out everything from my stash and looked at it. Really looked at it. I stopped buying body wash then ( darn philosophy for making me want every scent!) and this month was a victory. I opened the last body wash in my stash. Thank you ladies for the tip to use as hand soap or I might have been another 6 months! Reading your victories has helped me to be mindful of my shopping and am only replacing things from my stash instead of trying the next thing that doesn't work. For example, I tried a BM eye cream and did not like it, so into the stash it went. When I finished my neck cream I searched my stash and came up with this forgotten eye cream. Guess what! I loved this eye cream for the neck area! Perfect. I have also gifted unopened makeup to my niece. It was hard to gather it up, but once it was gone, I felt so free! Why, oh why, did I ever think I needed to hoard 2-3 of everything? So I just wanted to thank you lovelies for posting inspiration for all of us "lurkers" on the boards. Jeannie

Welcome, and I hope you will continue to post on this thread.

Thank you!

So, I can't believe it, I managed to escape the skinn presentations with no purchases. I caught a few mins here and there and was slightly tempted by the oil he has, but didn't budge. I really don't want to bring any more products in the house. Pat, pat, for me. Actually, after my little buying spurt this year, something clicked and I hope it isn't temporary. I am now on the road to just using what I have. I cleared some things out of my bathroom cabinet and just kept what I wanted to use first and I like opening the cabinet and not seeing it jammed packed. I think I may be cured from over buying products, fingers crossed.

Willdob3, the funny part is I wish I had more to donate too. I still have a little bit I can do but what remains is the hard stuff. It felt incredible to get all that stuff out. I actually felt lighter. I often think if I got that all back, where the heck would I put it all. Now, I want to try and sell some things but sometimes I wonder if it's worth the time and effort.

Me too. I open my closet a couple of times just to appreciate it. It feels calm now. Since getting rid of so much I, too, am trying to wear all that I have. I don't always succeed but am trying. I love tho that I don't have to strain a muscle pushing things over to make room for one a shirt. I no longer feel frustrated with my closet.

Heading out to Goodwill today. Eleven t-shirts, 8 PJs, 1 set of queen sheets, and a box of household "stuff."

This month marked my 1 year anniversary of not buying any home fragrance or bath and body products, as well as not buying other unnecessary stuff. Haven't used up anything this month. I have DH using my Dial lemongrass scented body wash, it's very gender neutral, while I work on my girly scents.

I'm going to try scaling down my skincare routine. Right now I only intend to replace my suncreen and cleanser as needed. If I notice a difference after using up the rest of my serums, lotions, and toners, I'll replace as needed too. I'm thinking my Paula's Choice BHA will be one of them.

My mom has been in a nursing home for over 2 years, and my dad for over a year. Cleaning out their home has made me think harder about what's in mine.
