I don't see my doctor for my yearly checkup until January, but I have been reading a lot about perimenapause and I can see the signs, which can begin 4 to 8 years before actual menopause. I feel negative about menopause because the lack of estrogen makes your skin look older and makes it harder to maintain your weight.

Ladies, You are all great inspirations to me and I have been trying to clear out, de-clutter and buy less stuff. I was successful in May and June with two rooms. I am hoping to tackle my closest and my son's bedroom. Since he moved out it has become the dumping grounds. It is full of boxed up items to be given away. I have about three weeks until my next surgery and my mother will be staying in my son's room so I need to get it done.

If any of you ladies have any advice for clothing ideas or choices I would appreciate it. I will be having shoulder surgery and will not be able to move my arm for at least a month. I won't be able to slip anything on over my head and can't wear anything like a bra strap that puts pressure on my shoulder.

I had shoulder surgery last summer. I agree with those who said button up shirts are best. My occupational therapist said forget about wearing a bra for a long time.. I had some old, stretchy Citiknits tanks which I wore in place of a bra.

I tracked all of my beauty purchases and things used from July 2013-'June 2014. Last year 82 products were used or thrown away and this year it was 130. I used up 78 and got rid of 52.

I used up-

facial cleansers- 3, face, neck, and eye products- 20, eyeshadows- 2, clear mascara- 2, lip gloss- 1, hand and body creams- 12, bath/shower gel- 13, body powders- 3, spray fragrance- 4, body scrub- 2, handwash- 1, deodorant-1, shampoo- 4, hairspray- 2, foot cream- 2, toothpaste- 4, floss- 2.

So the stash is going down but the bad news that I brought in 71 products and spent $1161.66.. Yikes. This has to stop. I cancelled my A-D orders.

Love the Au and Ag, best of luck with your shoulder surgery! I like the idea of men's shirts. Those retro ones are cute.

Kay SD, I have my grandmothers' knick knacks in my attic. Whoever thought of knick knacks had no idea of the agony they would cause future generations.

dperry - When I was in my early 40's, I started feeling irritable and was having night sweats off and on. My GYN said it was perimenopause. The irritability only lasted a few months, but daytime hot flashes teamed up with the night sweats to make me miserable. Fast forward to age 50. I continued to take birth control pills throughout my forties but had to stop for a few weeks due to some tests I needed. After the tests, I was going to resume taking BCP. I waited for my period to return. It never did. I saw my GYN, and she had my ovaries tested. The result? I was POST menopausal! That was it. Done. I asked her why I had my periods until I stopped taking BCP. She said that the BCP were artificially creating my period. Who knows how long I was post menopausal. I am almost 52, and it really hasn't been that bad.

Hi, everyone. Happy Independence Day!

My family and I went to DC for a few days. I love that place, but the kids had never been there. They were not as enthusiastic as I thought they would be. Part of that is because they are 12 and 16. The sense of adventure that used to fill their thoughts has been replaced with aloofness. It was also really hot. They said they had a good time. I guess I was hoping to see them jumping up and down with excitement like the two wide-eyed preschoolers we saw on the Metro. As they walked to their seats, they thought the train was going to start up any second, so they clung to each seat as they passed it just in case the train bolted. So cute!

My ComPacting continues, and I have hardly bought anything. I am in replacement spending mode. I did purchase a small pair of Tweezerman tweezers to carry in my purse. Never know when a random hair is going to pop up. Or should that be pop OUT. Dperry, I forgot. This is one of the consequences of menopause. Hair where we don't want it. Oh, yeah. Forgetfulness, too.

Paws and enjoy life.

This whole shoulder thing got me thinking what do you do in place of a bra. I dont know if tube tops are still around, but that may not be a bad option to give you a little support.
