Yesterday I went into a gift shop, and while I saw a lot of cute things, the only thing I would consider going back for was a $21 patriotic banner.

Better-half can clear a counter, a shelf, or a cupboard and feel perfectly fine leaving it that way. He has often asked me why I'm compelled to fill a space. He's a person who can live with white walls and no art hanging on them.

Holiday decorations? Not in our house. We have compromised and I take great pleasure in hanging my ancient wreath on the front door each Christmas season. This results in a difficult time of year for Better-half. There is something hanging on our door. It haunts him.

I'm surprised he doesn't have seizures when I run outside and place flags in the front yard.

Just Bee, thankfully my DH goes along with all my holiday decorations. I don't put that many things out, and it is he who actually has suggested I buy more banners. He said they are easy to fold and store away in our garage cabinets.

My Better Half is just the opposite.

If there is a flat/nearly flat surface, he will cover it with something.

The back of the loveseat has 4 pieces of mail separated into 3 piles! The arm of the loveseat always has something on it. He keeps books (including a huge dictionary) that he never even looks at, mail and coupons on the end table, and newspapers on the coffee table. He keeps 2-3 foam cups of water, a big box of matches (we don't use matches), a bottle of toothpicks, and other little "trinkets" on the dining room table. If I clean and move his stuff, he seems to get confused, like it was organized and now it's "missing".

His armoire and tables are so covered with stuff, it's unreal. He doesn't want me to touch them, so I asked him to move it all so I could dust, he said no! I asked if he wants me to take all the stuff off, dust, and he could put it all back, he said no. I asked if he wants me to dust around it all, even though it all starts falling, he said no. I give up.{#emotions_dlg.sad}

I'm so glad we have separate bedrooms. But I think I should have bought a duplex!{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

What's so odd is that I'm the model of organization outside the house. At work, everything must be in its place. I have no tolerance for clutter. At the grocery store I will straighten shelves and arrange the carts in the parking lot (my cart thing makes Better-half nuts). I pick litter off the streets and pick up anything I find on the floor at work or in a place of business. At home? There could be a corpse in my living room and I'd get to it... eventually. I think I'd have to trip over it six or seven times, then I'd address it.

There must be a name for this.

OMGosh, Bee, I am the same way at work! And in my car! everything in its place. All the time. Home is completely different - despite my intentions.

I hope to get - and stay - organized at home eventually. It is slow progress getting there.

I also collect clutter in my refrigerator. I evidently will collect empty bottles on the door until I run out of space. The bottles tend to be pickles & mustard. I need to get the empty bottles out of the fridge tonight.

I found this great site!! You can sign up for emails, and she will email you instructions every week for 13 weeks. Starts in a week or two, for a total of 91 days. I'm totally doing it, even though I went through the house recently. I think it will push me a little more. Here is the site. You'll have to copy and paste. http://maryorganizes.com

Yes! I fold and straighten clothes on hangers. But my closets... uh... well...
