April has not gone so well for me. I have been eating and caving my way through the month. That, along with grooming my mustache, has kept me busy.

It didn't start off so bad. I used a few things and tossed some hair products. Then, I bought a couple of tops. Next, I bought two maxi dresses. Along came four new lip glosses and a Nyx eye shadow stick that is very similar to Mally's taupe e/s stick which I used up. UPS just delivered a pair of jeans moments ago. I almost ordered the Korres TS. All that anti-aging talk nearly got to me. Then, I remembered that I am going to try coconut oil next. Somehow, I managed not to order the TS. I bought Andrew's eye vitamin TS. I use this and love it, so the purchase is a valid replenishment. All this is a week.

Yesterday, I ate a whole box of chocolate covered, peanut butter, granola bars and at least eight chocolate cupcakes. This morning, I had a chocolate covered, chocolate chip, granola bar and another cupcake for breakfast. My stomach hurts.

Last night, I decided to toss some lip glosses to make up for my purchases. I found one that had turned gray. Super gross.

Not such a good week, but I am going to turn it around. I need to go to the grocery store, but it is pouring. I might go for it. What's a little rain?

......not sure if your post is meant to be serious or sarcastic...I am sorry if I am mis-understanding. But if this is true...you CAN regain control. Is there some underlying issue or event that happened recently which precipitated this "not so good week"?

Sorry for playing armchair shrink but your post sounds as if a "so what--who cares" mentality is settling in....which can lead to further "not so good" weeks.

If I TOTALLY mis-read your post and it was meant as tongue-in-cheek...I SO apologize! If a serious post....please know there's someone here who has experienced similar episodes and can relate...

No need to apologize. I was serious and sarcastic. Things are not going well. The cause is not within my control at all, and this upsets me greatly. The sadness and disappointment I feel is so overwhelming that it sends me looking for a way to cheer myself up until the plans I have made to change the situation happen. I rely on my sense of humor and hope to get me through life's tough spots. I am also not shy about posting when I fall off the ComPact. There is nothing wrong with sharing this. I believe that there are many people who read this thread who also struggle in one way or another. The important thing is to get up, dust myself off, and move forward. That is what I am doing.

You are a very good armchair shrink. I have actually thought "who cares" and "so what". Please join us more often on this thread. Your contribution would be welcomed!

Also, I don't really have a mustache (yet). Read my post #33 for details if you haven't already. Smile

Dosey --

I was happy to see you on the other thread. I'm always happy to see someone on that thread because I think it's dying! I keep finding it on page 6 and I continue to resurrect it, but I wonder if it's worth it.

Now that you and a few other ComPacters are there, I think it is.

The first thing you need to do is ditch those chocolate granola bars. What's the deal with all these granola/snack/energy/health bars that are mostly chocolate? GAK! These are nothing but candy.

I went to Costco and invested in Clif Bars and Larabars. I never know when I'm going to get a chance to eat at work (sometimes it doesn't happen) so I'll eat a Clif Bar in the car on my way there. These are definitely not candy.

Better-half made a batch of "health" bars for me a couple years ago to bring to my Nutrition class. Very similar product. They stick to your ribs and keep you going. Those chocolate bars just make you keep going back to get another bar.

You probably have great farmers markets where you are. We really don't. Still, we're determined to find decent produce and I'm looking forward to melons.

It's the cat, isn't it?

Let's keep that thread going. People are interested. Just look at the number of views. I posted on it a few minutes ago, so it should be bumped up.

The granola bars are still on sale, but I did not buy a single box! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} I tried two brands of protein bars (can't remember the names), and they tasted like they were made of sawdust and corn syrup. I am going to try to skip the bars and reach for fruit.

We do have some farmers markets and roadside stands, but they are not nearby. They also do not have the variety of produce as shown in the pictures that you posted on the healthy eating thread. However, what is available is delicious. Can't wait for fresh peaches!

Yes, it is the cat. He wants inside. He wants outside. Inside. Outside. ... He makes me crazy. Just moments ago, he was sitting next to my chair. When we made eye contact, he would quickly look at the back door. He is smart. I just wish he would stick with a decision. Soon, he will be at the back door, glaring at me through the glass with black eyes that tell me, "Let me in or I'll attack you while you sleep."

I had to make an unexpected and unwanted purchase on Sunday. {#emotions_dlg.angry}

On Saturday, Better-half's cell phone died. On Sunday morning I awoke to find my cell phone (identical model) lifeless on the kitchen counter.

The irony.

We never wanted smart phones; we were content with moderately competent phones. Yes, they were old. Yes, they were near-obsolete flip models. But they did the two things I wanted them to do: They allowed us to make a phone call, and they allowed us to receive a phone call.

Oh -- and we could stick them in our pockets and go.

Now we have two Droids. The cases alone cost more than what I wanted to pay for a phone. And a person needs some big pockets to accommodate these phones.

I have been forced to participate in the 21st century.

How old were your flip phones? I have a 5 or 6 year old flip phone which is a TRAC PHONE. It is the only phone I have. Once a month I go to the drug store, buy a card and add minutes. Simple. No phone bill. No data plan. For travel, I use an HP tablet with WIFI. Love it.

I am so very jealous!

Hey, bee, give the little android guy a chance. I got an iPhone about six years ago, and the biggest change I've noticed is now I hardly ever make phone calls. Email, text, Skype, FaceTime, yes, yes. Phone, nope. Does anyone actually talk on the phone any more?

And if it weren't for my iPhone, I'd have had to replace my GPS, my iPod, and my camera by now. I'd be wandering around in the dark, with nothing to listen to, and no pictures to show you when I finally got back.

I don't have to carry my calendar, my to do lists, my address book, or a deck of cards. I am never bored because of all the things I can read--books, magazines, websites. I have an encyclopedia in my purse. I just grin and wave my phone at the barista when I go to Starbucks. Which I do, a lot. They sent me a gold card, but I don't need it because i've got an app.

When I need a hug, I just tell Siri she is terrific, and she always says something nice back. Irrelevant, more often than not, but very nice. She told me once I was the wind beneath her wings. I bet your flip phone never told me anything like that.

So don't sell your new phone short; you two may have a beautiful friendship some day.

WOW! You make me what an iPhone. Have you ever lost the info on your phone? Do you back it up?

Oh, I'm bummed. I tried the Siri thing, told the phone she is terrific and all she said was, "Thank you." She'll tell me which flights are overhead, but not the compliment. I tried it again, and it said, "Wow! Really?" I guess I have to play with it more.

Dosey

Thank you and thanks for the clarification.

btw--I have a gorgeous 3 yrs.-old shiny black Calico who does that in-n-out thing all the time...only ""out"" in my case means into the apt.-building's hallway! Actually--it's a big old house converted now into 4 apts...so she (Minxy) gets to go downstairs..explore the halls..sit in the hall window..then come back up to me.

You know how it is..first she scrapes at the door...::::scratchscratchscratch;;;;so I open it (but don't close completely tight)...eventually (not long) she pushes her way back in...then a few hours later---the same routine! She's the most active at this routine in the middle of the night! Like NOW for instance!! haha

I even play ""fetch"" w/her=I roll or toss a toy across the apt..then she races to it. When I hurry to her--she races and hides somewhere....then I throw it again..

::::lather---rinse---repeat:::::

just trying to entertain/exercise her!

Also--I too have several boxes of various brands of granola bars...including a box

of Peanut Butter N Jelly granola bars! Of course the box is designed to appeal to kids--but I LOVE PBJ sandwiches and eat them twice a week at least! So I understand the appeal!

Just bee, I am casting my vote to keep this thread going Smiley Happy. I don't post too often but I do read this thread and find it very helpful. I am very cyclical in my compacting efforts, but I like to think I am at least buying more thoughtfully now. As several others have said, this is the nicest thread!

Another one here who wants to keep the thread going! I don't post as often as I should either, but I enjoy reading it too.

I have done well this month so far, I haven't purchased any beauty products at all and the only thing that has come into the house is 3 lotions that were free after my coupons. I just can't pass up free.

I am looking for a new daytime moisturizer and I don't know if I should try Paula's choice or Cerave. I like all the good reviews Paula's line gets, but I don't like the idea of having to order online. If I run out of something I want to just be able to pick it up when I'm out at the store.

That's one of my goals, find products that I like that are easily accessible, so if I get low I can pick up another one and not have to shop online and order things I don't need just to get free shipping. I just finished an Ulta blush that I really liked and would like to repurchase. It's on sale at Ulta right now for $3. My Ulta is about a half hour away, kind of a pain to get to, especially for one small item. And I definitely don't want to spend $50 on "stuff" to get free shipping. So I think I might just use what I have for now then try to find something later that I like at the drugstore. Or just wait until I happen to be near Ulta again and grab one rather than make a special trip out.
