I used Clinique Elixir for too many years to count. However, this past year when rebuying, it is not the same.  I would constantly be asked, even in elevators, what are you wearing...it smells so good.  Now, I don't get comments and when I remove my clothing I don't even smell it on them.  I read somewhere that Clinique had sold their company to someone but I don't know if this is the reason the formula was changed, if it was.

Has anyone experienced this?  I would like to find another perfume that is similar to the original scent....any suggestions?

If you are talking about Clinique Aromatics Elixir, I also wore it for years. I finally figured out it was far too intense, I would pull up at the drive-thru and the person inside the window would ask me what the scent was....and working in my small office by my classroom finally clued me in when the person I shared with moved out...and a colleague told me it was due to the strong perfume I wore. I was mortified. I have not worn it for years now...even though I loved the scent myself! It is still being sold...I have seen it online several places.

I always thought it was too strong of a scent - pungent - and I'm not sensitive to scents either.

I haven't purchased this lately as I still have a good supply.  It is my favorite all-time scent.  It is a woody floral done in a bright, fresh, herbaceous manner and there are those who state that there is a medicinal suggestion in the aroma so most definitely not everyone will appreciate its brilliance.

I certainly hope the formula has not changed since I consider it a masterpiece.

I was a fan of Aromatics Elixir too and used it for years! And I also loved Estée Lauder's Aliage. It was an herbal grassy floral type frangrance. I just loved it.

I used it for years also.  I've had the same experience where men in an elevator would say that I smell good.  It was quite interesting.  I tried using it lately and it was different.  It kind of smelled the same but didn't last long.  I threw it away.  Every perfume I've purchased in the last couple years has been a bummer.

I'm sorry if you are having a disappointing experience with your perfume.  I always thought this was pretty, very exotic, but way too heady for me.  Another perfume that I used to love which was very strong was Youth Dew, by Elizabeth Arden.  I thought it was the greatest.  I stopped wearing it ages ago and now when I smell it, it instantly gives me a migraine!  I look back and think --- wonder if people thought --- oh, no, here she comes!  Yuck!!!

Years ago, I worked with twins, and they both wore Elixir and I think to this day they both still do.....Some people said they wore too much, but I always thought they smelled so good, it really worked with their chemistry! It is not a scent for the shy person! lol...

Of course I went out and spritzed it on, and it was not for me personally, but on them I loved the smell! My mom's cousin wears Estee and it smells so good on her, and again I tried it on me, and nope didn't work!

Aromatics Elixir was always my signature scent since it was first created.  Can't tell you how many compliments I received, and I could even smell it on my clothes the next day.  Talk about staying power!

The scent has definitely changed, and not for the better.  It now smells cheap and chemical-like.  Go to Clinique's website and read all the customer complaints.  I guess the company thought they could put one over on their customers, but no way.   Lots of people have noticed.  Occasionally company reps respond to the criticisms by saying they're always trying new things in making their fragrances, new techology, etc., but I don't think so.

I heard that the Aromatics Elixir Body Smoother cream still approximates the original scent.  I bought some but can't decide.  If they ever bring back the original, I'm buying it all.

Same for me.  Started wearing in the late eighties and was wonderful.  Bought a new bottle a couple of years ago and after a couple of uses could tell a big difference.  Bottle just sitting there now.  So disappointed.
