I bought one back in November.  However, I always make sure to clean any hair out before I put it up.  I've so far, not had to think about cleaning the surface.  However, that's a fair question.  I'm sure at some point, hair products may build up and it will need wiped down like a curling or flat iron.

@miss ellie   Read the cleaning instructions in the user manual.
