@I am still oxox  Your manicurist is not a professional the reason you are not asking her/him?

@Mz iMac  Ok course they are, I was just looking for options

Not sure what "cracking at the finger line" is, but I've helped my nails a lot with Hard as Hoof strengthening nail cream.

Maybe the brand of polish is not agreeing with your nails?  Try another brand.  And wear gloves when doing wet household chores.  Maybe these 2 things will help.

@AngelPuppy1 I do not do housework or wash dishes. I have worn this brand of polish off and on for a few years

My nails were total garbage---have never been long or strong anyway, but chemo really did them in--- thin and soft with ridge lines running thru a couple, easily bend and tear--a mess!!! and a couple more crumbled and wouldn't grow at all. I have been having over lays done since my son's wedding last Sept and oh what a difference. Gel overlays are a gel material that is patted overtop of your real nails--then cured under a UV lamp. I go have them filled in every 4 weeks or so. And I use gel polish too. Now gel polish is very strong and does not chip at all. it is dried under  UV light for about a minute--then is topped with a clear coat that is cured for another minute. Makes my real nails hard and sturdy and they look so nice--finally.  Was just explaining all this in case OP didn't know about it and altho the lamp and polishes are more $$ ,I think it saves in the long run by not needing to re- do polish. And anyone can buy them too. I didn't read if OP's nail person was a professional or a friend. It takes about an hour to do at the salon--I pay $40 + tip, each time I get the grow out fixed--think it was $50 the first time.

I suggested using Sally Hansen 7 in 1 nail treatment or treatments from Nail Aid. and try using some FREE polishes such as Zoya, free of chemicals.

The best advice my doctor gave me was to ditch the fake nails

Nails are porous and if you keep them tip length they have a foundation

not to break

once weekly push back cuticles and give them a nice mask

I use real mayonnaise

rinse off and you can clip away the excess cuticle with easy and nails are shiny

and conditioned

I do use a nail oil daily by Sally Hansen and the HARD AS NAILS clear coat, a few

coats protects the nail and they have a nice manicured look

Sometimes I will put a coat of milk polish on top which is sheer with a slight tint.

It is true though that protein is a game changer for strength and color in a healthy nail

Chemicals are a killer and so is smoking.
