Re: Best Mattifying Translucent Powder

I use Laura Mercier's Invisible loose powder; however, she does offer a powder that controls shine. Free shipping w/any purchase currently going on plus 2 deluxe samples on her website. I really like the Invisible powder as it's very lightweight and for all skin colors.

Re: Best Mattifying Translucent Powder

Like another poster I'd also recommend a primer. I, as well, did not believe in them but I was sick of blotting my face after 3 hrs (sometimes 2hrs - I actually got my face done at the Mac counter and the girl put on a foundation for acne-prone, sensitive skin and not only did I break out horribly the next day but I was looking like I came from the gym after 2 hrs.{#emotions_dlg.scared})

For a primer, since you're looking for double duty (shine busting & skincare), I'd look at Hourglass. Their Veil Mineral Primer, has literally changed my skin. Their liquid foundations also get rave reviews.

But for finishing powders, have you ever tried the LOOSE Tarte smooth operator? I tried the pressed before and hated it. There's a bit of difference of the 2 in their ingredient deck as well. I also use Tarte's amazonian clay airbrush powder before the smooth operator for a boost of coverage as well as shine control.

I agree- I think you may want to try Smooth Operator LOOSE. Very finely milled- very nice and does keep oil at bay.

Laura Mercier loose powder is nice, as is BE's Mineral Veil (loose or pressed)and BE's new powder that is pressed and was to be used over the new BE Liquid Foundation. I have oily/combo skin that needs mattifying products to get thru the day without being an oil slick.

All of the above work for me....BUT I always use a primer first. It is trial and error to find just the right one for your skin and foundation choice (I am in the middle of trying to find just the right primer also right now, as my go-to was discontinued)

Best of luck!

Re: Best Mattifying Translucent Powder

Thank you so much, everyone! I will look into primers, though I won't lie--the thought of using them makes me a little nervous for my skin, mostly due to silicones. There are so many great suggestions here--I'm so thankful. I do love Tarte's pressed powder, minus the frequent touch ups. I have their blotting papers, too, but I like having some powder in a compact to carry with me for touch ups. I'll probably end up trying their loose powder. I've ordered Tarte's Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation with the holiday brush from the Q and am waiting for it to arrive (should be soon)--I hear that does a great job with oil control on its own! (I sound like a real Tartelette, don't I? I'm more of an IT Girl, though, funnily enough!)

I'm intrigued by the Urban Decay All Nighter spray, too. I did some research last night, and most people said it worked wonderfully for keeping their makeup looking great, but not much mention of shine control. One person actually said it set their makeup so well that they couldn't even get it off with makeup remover! That's a little cause for concern for me, but not enough for me to write it off completely. I also looked into their De-Slick spray, but there were mixed reviews, so I don't think I'll try that one. I really like the idea of a spray, though.

Thank you, again, for your responses. You all are so helpful! I knew you would be Smile.

I use Urban Decay's All Nighter setting spray. It is wonderful! Truly delivers. My makeup doesn't fade, hydrates the skin, doesn't make you oily. I have very sensitive skin and this does not irritate or break me out. A winner! You can get a sample size (not dinky at all) at Sephora for $14 to try it out. Urban Decay also has a setting spray called "Deslicking" that might help better to combat shine. HTH!

Thanks, Poppet. I see you said the All Nighter spray doesn't make you oily, but do you find it keeps oil at bay? Do you have oily skin? Laurelei said it keeps her matte all day; does it do the same for you?

I've looked into De-Slick, but unfortunately, the reviews are too inconclusive for me to commit to buying it. There are a lot more consistent positive reviews for All Nighter. I just hope it does a great job controlling oil! The fact that you said it doesn't break you out is great Smiley Happy. That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for! I'll probably end up purchasing the sample size.

If anyone else has any other powder suggestions, I'm all ears. Thank you for your response, too, Amaly!

Yep- me too- have regular and tinted. My most favorite face makeup ever.
