In case you didn’t know QVC became a bigger organization, it purchased HSN too.  Also a few executive went overboard on their expenses in the total of 200K per year (not counting their salaries).  As the consumer- we are making up the difference-the products that we are buying are not getting more ‘technology’ as the first and main component is ‘water’.  If you want to be a better consumer, you have to investigate before you lay down your hard earned cash.

@Goodie.  A company called Qurate is the parent company to QVC,HSN,Frontgate,Grandin Road,Zuilily,Garnet Hill and Ballard Designs. So actually QVC did not buy anyone. All these companies are under the one parent company.

Right, but all of us should investigate purchasing items at a fair price and not be the fall guys to make up for corporate greed.

I no longer buy any beauty products from QVC. I got out of the habit during the time they refused to list ingredients.  I know they list ingredients now but, for me, too little; too late.

All of these mergers and buyouts don't really benefit the consumer, do they? If it's a beauty company that gets sold to a private equity company or a private equity company selling it to a major beauty brand, the customer ends up paying for those costs. Same with the Qurate mergers of QVC and HSN. Those HSN severance costs when those executives got laid off get paid buy the customers of both QVC and HSN through higher prices and shipping costs.

Want to bet that Qurate's second quarter won't be so great? Beauty is a discretionary expense and in an uncertain economy I think you'll see consumers doing some belt tightening when it comes to clothes and beauty purchases -- the staples of QVC and HSN.

Sometimes you can get a good deal at the Q on Laura Gellars make up or Mallys but its almost right time and place. Most of the time its a better deal for me just to go to Sephora or Ulta

@TY  The best way I’m saving money on skincare & makeup is by cutting back on unnecessary products/steps. I checked my “supplies” carefully and put the least used/can do without in a shoebox. I didn’t miss them after 3 months so will not replace.

What’s in my NO box? 2 eye creams...day & nite. Now use only one for both. Night serum to supposedly increase hydration...saw no huge difference, just add another light layer of moisturizer & be sure to really massage it in, not just leave it sitting on skin. Makeup: eliminated too many shadow choices...kept the lighter shades for lids, grayish browns for crease, grayed heather for a change up...Many browns, taupes and muddier shades that no longer look great w/ white hair...in the box. Also stored away are extra brushes not used every day, eyeliners that dragged, tweezers that needed to be replaced and my lash curler. Stopped using it 3 yrs. ago...not a great habit as lashes become sparse/mascara makes them brittle.

My every day products are cut by 1/3. I can reach for exactly what I need and getting ready is a snap. No more wasting money on trying new products when what I have is my HG in each category.

I noticed price increases across the board while shopping at the B&M Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor.  I think cosmetic prices are way up everywhere.
