I have never used Bare Minerals or a powder foundation. I could use some advice. Which gives the best coverage - liquid or powder? Also those who have used BM, do you like it or have another recommendation. Right now I use Tarte and like it - just would like to compare it with another product.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I am 59, I have used BE for about 3 years and I like it. I don't feel that it makes my skin look dry as others and noticed on their skin, but I do use a good face cream as well as a primer. When I was at Sephora to get a sample of the BE I also got a sample of Tarte, the sales associate told me she thought the Tarte had more coverage than BE but I really never noticed any difference. It might make a difference if you have the correct color for your skin. Right now I prefer the mineral make up....the liquid seemed to drag a bit on my skin.

Get a sample from Sephora. The powdered minerals are very different feeling from liquid foundation. The best coverage is sometimes a liquid foundation first and a finishing layer of the powder.

I used BE for years and found it worked well, but it is messy. I have 2 shades of the Tarte powder and like it better, it doesn't accentuate wrinkles as much. To cover blemishes or scars BE well rested, bisque or summer bisque work great. I have read recently that powder foundations are not necessarily better for your skin. I have the new BE liquid, and while it covers well, it ends up looking cakey. Did not care for the Ready foundation, however really like the ready eyeshadows. You might find this post on bismuth oxychloride, the main ingredient in BE interesting:

I like Tarte's Amazonian Clay powder foundation much better than Bare Minerals. I think it has a better texture and can be applied at different levels from a light dusting to full. BE will only go light. There's no way to make it full coverage.
As for powder vs liquid. Not all liquids can go full. Some are very light fluids (even lighter than some of the tinted moisturizers around), and won't offer as much coverage as a powder foundation. For maximum coverage cream foundation is going to be the best choice. My philosophy is that if you wear foundation then you should probably invest in a wardrobe of which you can use according to what you need. My makeup case includes powder, liquid, stick, and a cream. You may not want to go that far, but I do believe one foundation is not sufficient because what our complexion needs can vary from day to day. The best thing to do is walk around a store like Sephora or counter to counter in a department store where you can touch various types of foundation. Most cosmetic counters (and Sephora) will offer a take home samples if you clearly express your desire to test wear at home before making a purchase. I do not like to speak poorly of retailers, but please don't go to Ulta. They are not very generous with samples at all.

Thank you all for your help. Lots of good suggestions. I have not tried Tarte's powder, so may start there. But liked the idea of getting some samples first - had not thought of that since I order so much on line but will stop in a B&M store for those.
Again, thanks for your ideas.
