I've been having excessive peeling...I guess it's from the Retin A...although I apply hyaluronic and toner, sometimes Rosewater spritz before or moisturizer, I wait over an hour or so, then the retin A...so idk what's going on.???

But seems like everything is burning,  even mild cleansers.

So last night, I really over did it...I used Tatcha rice polish to remove the peeling...not flakes...big skin peeling.

I believe I got too heavy handed and I kept it a bit gritty and polished away...dumb, I know.

It's just that I can't even apply make up with this peeling, so i wanted it off.

Afterwards I started to dab a bit of collagen toner on for hydration, and holy moley I just about went through the roof...stung and burned like crazy.

I quickly splashed cold water on my face...but I couldn't do anything more for it.  I was all red and sensitive.

Today the areas are red and slightly puffy, but I was able to gently cleanse with a mild oat wash, I thinks it's Aveeno, then I patted cerave hyaluronic toner gently, rosewater spritz...I was ok.

Ill be home all weekend, so im not applying anything more to my face, but a moisturizer if i can tolerate it.

Maybe im doing something wrong before applying the retin A ?

It's. 05 strength and i always peel, but lately it's getting worse.

I'll be making an appointment with a dermatologist soon..but it's going to be a wait...maybe I should go back to .25, or just not use retin A anymore ill see what derm says..idk??

Believe it or not, I still have some areas that are peeling 🙄.

I have to wash my face because I have horses and I clean their stalls and I get very sweaty here...otherwise id cut that out and just rinse...but I can't.

Not using any of that until I heal, no make up, nothing but cerave toner.

Just to mention, the hyaluronic im currently using is The Ordinary.

Any suggestions/opinions...thank you.

Oh no @Dazlin!  I'll let the other skin experts like @SilleeMee chime in but sounds to me like you have compromised your skin barrier.  Agree that you should stop everything and just cleanse - gently - and moisturize for now.  Others will give you suggestions for moisturizers and/or treatments to use to repair your skin.  Hope things get better soon.

Yes you overdid it.   Stop with the RetinA.  It is too strong for you. Let your skin heal for several weeks.   Were you applying it daily?  That was too often.

A derm appointment makes sense at this point.  If you must go back to RetinA, use the lowest dose, use once a week to start, then every 3 days, then every other day.

@PinkyPetunia ...I dont use retin A every day...I skip one or 2 days between.

Yes, I won't be using it at all now.

I have extremely strong and healthy skin, and I rarely use any of those chemicals.

I think the skin can become sensitive to any kind of chemical with overuse.

However, I do love the sun, and if I sit out too long without suntan lotion, I might get a light burn.

In that case I use aloe gel to help heal and moisturize.

I have only had my face peel slightly twice in my entire life, and that was when I was sunburnt in temperatures above 100 degrees.

Sometimes when I work out in the garden and yard pulling weeds, I might get a tiny bit of poison ivy, even though I wear gloves and protective clothes.

To help my skin heal I use a special cream called Andantol, which is clean, does not smell, and does not damage clothes.  However, I mainly buy it in Mexico.

Some people recommend oatmeal washes as well for inflamed skin.

Good luck!

@Dazlin -

I've been there too.  When I over exfoliated and felt raw, @SilleeMee recommended jojoba butter.  Get pure jojoba butter, nothing else mixed in.  Amazon has it.  Gently cleanse your face and pat dry.  Apply the butter.  Don't put anything else on it.  No toner, serums, nothing.  The jojoba butter will soothe and the skin will start to repair. You'll feel better soon.  Give your face time to recover and start back slowly with your RetinA.

One more thing...

Unless you're medically unable to use it, Benadryl can help with the swelling.

I wouldn't even use the toners.  The dermatologist gave me Aquaphor after removing a mole on my back, so maybe one of the Aquaphor products would help to create a skin barrier and promote healing.

I think you probably meant .025 for the retinA.  .25 would be a higher dose than .05.

Steps you can take right away:

- Temporarily stop using the tret until the redness and most of the peeling subsides.

- Gentle cleanser, no hot or very warm water.

- Use a barrier-healing moisturizer that contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid.

- Avoid chemical exfoliants. Try using a damp cotton muslin cloth instead and do not rub it back and forth. Go in one direction covering small sections at a time.

Depending on your age, the skin barrier can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to go back to its normal condition. The older you are the longer it takes.

After your skin has returned to a comfortable state then resume using tret. If you stay at the concentration that caused the problems then reduce application, every other or every few days and be sure not to apply too much. Do not apply it like a moisturizer. Common mistake many people make and that causes the excessive irritation and peeling.

WEAR SUNSCREEN.
