Applying Illuminare foundation

I have some samples of Illuminare foundation and have been trying them out. My face is dry and really sensitive, so I thought the Fantastic Finish moisturizing one would be good. What is the best way to apply it? A damp sponge never seems to work out for me and it wastes the foundation. So I put it on with my fingers. Sometimes it works and sometimes it looks really flakey and not smooth. I was really hoping this foundation would work out. Any suggestions? Thanks!
