Any experience with home-applied Acrylic Nail Solution?

I swim at least 1-5 times a week at the local Fitness Center. Chlorine in the pool weakens my bare nail, yet I've found absolutely NOTHING that stays on my nails beyond 1-2 swims.

I'm wondering if a thin layer, of home applied Acrylic solution would keep a nail polish on longer? Any drawbacks? TIA
