@Still Raining Ya Brave & Scary for me. I have watch some youtube video on the subject. You have to be totally committed & I am not sure. I am sticking it out so far. My Daughter thinks I look too young for gray hair but many young woman look lovely with it. My husband thinks its fine but now there is a but, he said you will look beautiful in whatever you choose but also said he loves my natural color. hmm

@Kabella wrote:@millieshops Thank You. I will say that my hairdresser thinks I can still pull off the Black hair. I don't think so as I have to look into the mirror & think I need a softer but slightly lighter shade of brown. I told her I did not want to bleach my hair, even tho it is on the healthy side & not sparse but a thicker fine texture. She is new since I recently moved to Fl. I have not totally comitted to gray & thats another dilemma. If I do decide to go lighter, I don't think I have a choice but to grow the gray I have longer & then highlight it in the back? Then a shoulder cut.
I've been told whenever you go lighter, you must use a lightning agent.

not brave, it's just hair and not a war
i was following some "grey hair" accounts and baled/bailed? when they started talking about a spiritual journey and other annoying buzz words.
I am growing out mine b/c I didn't want to spend the money or just use it for other stuff,
if I really hate I can go back to the color

@Kabella I've been a snowbird for quite a few years now, so I use 2 hair professionals regularly. It's a funny experience in a way - they agree about my color, but neither really likes how the other one cuts so every time I make the transition I hear "We'll have you looking good in just a few visits."

@Kabella wrote:Having color issues. My natural hair color is almost black. I was thinking of transitioning to gray. This is one of my problems....Now I have not had my hair colored to my natural color since late Jan. The Gray is only on the top & some on the sides which is salt & pepper but the problem is I have absolutely no gray at all in the back of my head! So, I it would look horrid to grow out the gray I have until I get more gray in that area. Do you Agree? (I am 62) Now, at my age I feel my blackish hair is too harsh. I was thinking of using a boxed med. Brown shade which would soften the look but not sure how that would look considering the black in the back of my head. What do you think? I do not want to use any type of bleaching agent. Thankyou.
@Kabella Unless you use bleach on your dark hair, boxed hair color will not lighten your haircolor. Color does not lift color...only bleach does. If anything, it could make the situation worse adding a 3rd or 4th color by pulling up your natural hair's highlights...red or golden brown. I'd let it be and then let your stylist match your grey in front to do highlights in that shade in the back to blend it all together.

@Kabella wrote:@buckeyegirl1 Thank You for the response but thats just another process that only a skilled pro could do well. That is not the answer for me. I do have long hair with no layers except for long bangs which I am growing out. Possibly, it might look ok when the top grows longer & I keep on triming it regulary as my hair grows really fast. I am now wearing in a loose high bun which looks much better than wearing it down.
@Kabella I may have mentioned here that I went grey with a few friends..together. One had long hair and said wearing a pony tail or bun saved her life. The only non-grey area was somewhat hidden in the bun which was darker, but anyone she cared about could tell she was "going natural". It's a big deal to you, but surprisingly so women are doing it...even this before quarantine, that I don't think you should give it a second thought. Many people you know will emerge with different color hair...either grey or box dyed, etc.

My hairdresser is doing my color & cut in her home tomorrow. I can't wait to kiss this gray good-bye! I haven't wanted to look in the mirror for weeks.

I am a licensed hairdresser and I also had naturally black colored hair all of my life. I stopped coloring at age 50 and I am almost 66 now. My hair is salt and pepper. The front is salt, the top has more half and half and the back and nape has very little salt and is still black.
This is quite common. There are many men and women who are gray but still retain their natural color in the back and nape area. It's not a problem and doesn't need to be fixed.
Most people with gray hair have various shades of white, silver, light gray, dark gray and their natural color all at the same time. Natural hair color is not one flat shade.
Just enjoy your hair the way it is.

@Carmie Thank You for the advice & the pics. I actually like the look. As of now, my hair is below my shoulders so the best way it looks now is in a bun or pony tail without a part. I realize it will take at least a yr. for me to be able to part it & wear it down with more often trimming as it grows unusually fast which is in my favor. I have a barber's sissors & have been cutting it myself & my husband evens out the back until I feel its safe to go to my stylist. Well Wishes, Stay Safe to you & all of us!

@Kabella when I grew my hair out I bought a bottle of Roux Fanci Full in Black Rage. I transferred it into a spray bottle and lightly sprayed it on my gray roots just on the top where I could see the gray. It didn't cover up the gray, but it toned down the gray and the two colors blended better.
This product washes out of your hair with water. Be sure to use an old pillow case because it can rub off. It is a watery product and not thick at all. Use it lightly, just enough to tone down the gray and silver.
It's available at Sally and Amazon....and maybe your local drug store or Walmart.
