Re: Anti-aging Sleep Position

My sleep quality is really poor.  I toss and flip from side to side all night long.  I used to get up 3 or more times per night to go pee!  I found mouth taping being done online (youtube) and thought that's crazy!  But I was desperate and so many people do it I decided to try it.  It works...I don't get up to go potty all night long.  That's my best beauty tip LOL!

As for back sleeping I wish I could do it....I even have a adjustable bed so no need for a wedge.  We purchased this (split king) as husband gets heartburn sometimes and I get vertigo attacks so having a bed that lifts up the head is so important.  My husband only sleeps in 1 position all night and never rolls over...always on his left side as this prevents heartburn from happening.  That would be his tip LOL!

I wish I could sleep in one position all night and wake up refreshed...I know this is about chest wrinkles but I wake up from ear hurting or shoulder hurting and have to roll over.  My back is impossible I have tried....I never make it more then 45mins.  What I do to prevent chest wrinkles is I hug a fluffy large full pillow to prop up my shoulder/arm that way I am not creasing my chest skin all night.  It has worked for me for many yrs...still no chest wrinkles.

Re: Anti-aging Sleep Position

I always start out sleeping on my back and have done that forever.

Re: Anti-aging Sleep Position

I have always been a back sleeper but I like to lay on one side to relax me and then I move to my back.  I am not sure I believe that it makes a difference but I do think a satin pillowcase is a very good tool although I don't own one.  I like the slip one but it's $85.

Re: Anti-aging Sleep Position

I read this years ago and tried it.  It's true, I definitely didn't notice as many wrinkles.

Since my heart surgery I have had to sleep on my back in a chair to relieve the pain from my chest and shoulders. On nights I feel good enough to sleep in my bed, I still love sleeping on my side.  I'll take whatever gives me the best sleep....wrinkles or not.  Sleep will always come first.

Re: Anti-aging Sleep Position

I'd been a side sleeper my whole life (left side) and never thought I could sleep on my back until I had a bad leg break and had external fixators installed on the left leg for a couple of weeks. There was no way I could sleep any way but on my back because the hardware didn't permit it. I was also sleeping on the sofa because I couldn't do stairs, and you don't toss and turn on a sofa. If you do, you'll end up on the floor (I know, I did).

That was years ago, but I now find the only way I can fall asleep is on my back. I get up several times during the night for the usual reason and sometimes try sleeping on my side when I go back to bed, but my back often wins. I also sleep very propped up, with a bank of four pillows. Otherwise I get a suffocating feeling. Always have, since I was a kid. A side benefit is less puffiness.

I can definitely say that thanks to decades of pressing my face into the pillow, the left side has more lines than the right. Since I didn't drive for most of my adult life, sun exposure while driving isn't the reason. It's smooshing wrinkles into it for hours every night. At least now I'm not contributing to more of that kind of damage.

I don't know what these chest lines or creases are that people are mentioning. Maybe I don't want to know.

I have a wedge pillow I got when I had pneumonia so I could breath better but then I noticed my face was less puffy and the wrinkles on the side of my face I always slept on got better so I've kept doing it.

But, if you can't sleep this way, I think it's better to sleep so you can get a good night's rest for your health and mental state and no one looks good if they're bone tired all the time.

Re: Anti-aging Sleep Position

I've found this thread, and all of your experiences, very interesting.

I slept on my back again last night and my shoulders and my back feel terrific this morning.  My face doesn't have any puffiness or pillow-wrinkles and my jawline looks sharp.

I don't have difficulty falling asleep, or staying asleep, but I definitely agree that sleep itself is more important than any cosmetic concern.  I sleep well, and deeply, in almost any position.

I'm going to continue to intentionally sleep on my back.  For me there is no downside and there are some definite benefits.

Re: Anti-aging Sleep Position

I read a long time ago that you should try and sleep on your back because it would help keep lines from form on your face due to scrunching your face in the pillow when you lay on your side and also because of fluids accumulating, etc.  I don't know about that. I sleep on my back a lot due to medical issues but can't do it constantly as my back starts really hurting.  I doubt the theory of less wrinkles really is much to go on???

@BrandiDavis  Like @tsavorite  I have always been a poor sleeper since I was a little girl. I'm sure she will give you great advice about it. I just wanted to tell you that I have been doing the taping for a long while now and it is working for me.  I learned about it from a youtube channel called High Intensity Health.  I used to take the pink pills for allergys to help me sleep but I've read a study (can't remember where) that long term use could be linked to dementia. So I had to find another alternative to help me sleep.

I already eat early, take melatonin, and try to stay as relaxed as possible but I never get a full nights sleep. So in desperation I came across the info. and decided to try it. The first night I woke up in such a deep fog, I felt like I was drugged. I don't know if my body caught up with true sleep or what. Since then I have not had that reaction. I still wake up once during the night, but I have to take a thyroid med so it's no problem.

Of coarse you feel ridiculous with tape on your mouth, but I have been married for decades so my husband has seen it all. Lol!  I use the wide micropore tape and I create a tab so that if I need to cough or sneeze during the night, I can quickly take off the tape. I also unstick the tape several times against some fabric so that it's sticky enough to stick to my mouth, but not so that it would irritate my skin. I also put some type of lip balm before I tape. The micropore is lengthwise on my mouth so it's contained in a smaller area rather than straight across my entire mouth.

Sorry it's so long a post. Just my two cents. It's a wacky idea but it's worked for me so far.
