Slightly O/T, but not really. I was watching some crazy channel this morning and it was like the agricultural channel or something. It was like an hour long news cast, but it was all about farming, pesticides (ugh) and even livestock.

During one story, I couldn't help to notice that they kept showing a pig nursing her young. The female was laying on her side and there were poles keeping her from being able to stand and to even nuzzle her young.

Every once in a while one of the piglets would be pushed away from feeding by the others and it would wander up to the Mama's head and the Mama would try to smell it and nuzzle it, but was held back by these bars or poles.

I kept rewinding and looking to see this very sad reality. The mother couldn't get up on her own feet because she was held down in to lay on her side to nurse. She wouldn't have been able to turn around in this stall even if she was standing.

I thought of the claustrophobic aspect of this situation and the inhumane treatment all for the sake of bacon, ham, chops or a hot dog.

No thank you.

Being an animal activist, I am all too familiar with what the mama pigs lives are like in the small jail they live in, unable to move in some cases. Just stand for the duration of the pregnancy and then moved to another equally horrible situation to nurse.

QVC carries one of the worst offenders of abusing animals. Smithville. That company was sold to China. Now who wants to eat anything that China owns? Smithville is among the very worst in the industry in mistreating, torturing and abusing the animals before the slaughter.

Yes, I'm vegan. The slaughter is more than I can take. Their lives in torture before the slaughter are bad enough. And this company, Smithville, QVC sells it.

I am loyal to one brand and it covers, skincare, body care, makeup and hair care.

It does not test on animals.

I hope and pray they never change their standard because as much as it would mess up everything we use in this house and that of my grandchildren's.

However, I would no longer continue to use the products.

Good for you. You stand by your convictions!

MalteseMomma, HappyDaze, or DanishGal....or anyone else who could help. I just started reading the forums recently and was quite surprised and excited to see a discussion on cruelty free cosmetics. I have been searching for a face cleanser that is comparable to Philosophy Purity that is not tested on animals. I need a cleanser that removes eye makeup and is not moisturizing or drying; just a good, thorough cleanser. I also need a recommendation for a really good eye makeup remover for my teenage daughter. She uses Josie Maran's face wipes, but they don't do the best job at removing her eye makeup. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you to everyone who appreciates animals. Also, this is my first post ??

Hi Maggie and welcome! I don't really use/need a separate eye makeup remover because my facial cleanser removes it all unless I wear waterproof makeup (rarely) and in that case, I simply use organic coconut oil to remove any residual eye makeup. I don't have any recs for a similar facial cleanser to Purity because I found purity to be very drying and the cleansers I use are pretty much for drier skin. Are you looking for a drugstore brand or does it not matter? Hopefully others can chime in with their suggestions. Sorry I was not much help!

Thank you for replying HappyDaze! I've thought about trying my coconut oil on my eye makeup, I'm just worried about it seeping into my eyes and leaving a residual film behind. I should try it though...I've heard it's fabulous as an eye makeup remover. And no chemicals either. If it works for me, then I can have my daughter try it out, too. As for facial cleansers, it can be drugstore or high end really. As long as its cruelty free, i will consider it an option. Right now I only use high end brands on my face because my face is so picky and acne prone. My skin is oily, but now that im in my 30's, I get dryness under the oil. Its weird...That's why I've been on the hunt for something similar to the way Purity works. Thanks again for your advice!!

No problem, Maggie! Smiley Happy

So with the coconut oil, you can try a few different things. One, you can use it before you wash your face and then use your facial cleanser to wash any residual oil off. Or, this is what I do, just make sure you use a tiny, tiny amount on a soft cotton pad. Seriously, tiny tiny amount. I have eyes that are sensitive to many things and I have not had any issues with coconut oil seeping into my eyes or irritating them but again, that is because I use a tiny amount so no real oiliness left over. Use the oil the go back over the area with a clean cotton pad and it will get it all off.

Again, hopefully others can give you suggestions on cruelty free facial cleanser. Do you want to avoid companies that say they are cruelty free but are owned by parent companies that test, too? That would be another factor to consider if people want to give you recommendations. I may have a few suggestions for you but just not sure if they are Purity dupes per se.

HappyDaze, Thanks so much for the tips with the coconut oil....I will definitely try them!! For some reason I only associate cotton rounds with using a liquid. Never thought of trying them out with coconut oil. (My oil is usually in a solid state and Ive never wanted to warm it before applying to the eye area). I do prefer to not use products from a company owned by a testing parent company, but if my options seem limited, I will consider it. Whereas products from companies who do test on animals are no option for me. BTW, I read your earlier posts and was surprised that China accepted documentation from some companies (I don't remember which ones you stated) "in lieu" of animal testing. I hadn't read that before and I read articles and look for info on animal testing weekly, sometimes daily. Sometimes i pass over details because its too much for me, and pictures?!? Forget about it....but animals are my passion....and I try to stay well informed. So, I will look into that and appreciate you passing along that information to us.

That is a very sad image, but thank you for sharing. I am not vegetarian, but I do believe that you can provide livestock animals with a positive existence (isn't it really the least we can do considering the sacrifice that we require).

Maggie, I use all Josie Marans products because I trust her to be cruelty free and they are all pure . They work well for me and you can get that oil right up to or even into your eyes with no problems. She is cruelty free.

I also trust Chaz's WEN and use his products with no worries.

To tell the truth I have never looked better.............lol maybe I'm sleeping better without my conscience bothering me.................lol

I too am an animal activist. the cruelty that goes on is horrible and there is no excuse for it at all..

I just read in the paper that they are (USA Gov) using sheep ,getting them pregnant .Forcing /injecting large doses alcohol into them and the sheep fetuses then cutting them open, removing the baby sheep, taking out their brains while alive and then killing off the mother .Just to see the effects of alcohol on unborn babies. This is the most unnessary animal testing I have ever known. We already know what alcohol does to babies and young children.

Sickenly sad{#emotions_dlg.crying}

Did you know how we get milk? They impregnate a cow and as soon as it is born it is removed from the mother and killed for veal and we take the milk for human consumption and that poor mother cow cries her heart out for her baby. That is why the cows are mooing, not just because they like to ,it is because they want their babies back.

Premarin is "pregnant mares (horse) urine. Horses are impregnated ,then they spend the rest of their lives hooked up to catherers that remove their urine to make Premarinn for woman not to suffer a dam hot flash These horses go through this impregnating over and over and over, untill they are no longer useful then they too are slaughtered.

...and to whoever posted about not hunting wales anymore.....YES,they are still hunted along with sharks for shark fin soup, hunted ,fins removed slive then tossed back to sea ALIVE to die a horrible death!!

Nice world we live in......................not!!!
