Oriental? wow, that is so not allowed.

Good Grief, I meant that as a compliment. I think Asian women are very beautiful, simple as that, excuse me if I said something wrong!

And it was understood as such four paws. Not as a slur, nor uncommon decency and don't even get me started on politically incorrect. The world has truly become a ridiculous place....

I understood it as well. And I posted that it was not a slur. But it is considered offensive now, just in the way some other labels for ethnic or racial groups are. My example was how just a few decades ago, it was considered perfectly fine to refer to black people as "colored." Would you do that now? It's the same thing.

"Oriental" was a term made up by those who colonized Asian countries. It means "eastern." But it's only eastern from the vantage point of the Europeans.

Live and learn.

No amount of knowledge is going to navigate one's self in and around any one group's sensitivities. That would be one huge learning curve to live by.

I suppose the best remedy would be to say as little as possible, regardless of the viewpoint. You cannot continue going through life worrying about whether or not you are hurting someone's feelings through such trivial comments. However, society continues to feed into this mind set. There are much larger things to think and be concerned about, no doubt.

I think Amy and Nancy Hornbeck are probably the prettiest hosts at QVC. Of course all of the hosts' are very attractive.

My pick for prettiest host is Sandra Bennett.

Hi Ford! We will always be in agreement over that. Sandra is a natural beauty.....Smile

Yes, and I would add Jacque Gonzales, who also has a lovely face, beautiful skin.

Sandra and Jacque are my "picks." Smile

I don't find it a difficult learning curve at all. It was as easy for me to use the correct term "Asian," as it was for others to stop using "colored."

And to some, this may be trivial; to others, it may be hurtful.

I'm sure that in your life you've occasionally been offended to some degree or another by something said that maybe others wouldn't have found disparaging. That's why I am loathe to discount others' feelings as "trivial."

When it comes to "groups" in our world and our ability to bridge the differences, a "label" can be an important emblem.

I see the sensitivity issue struck a chord...it's all very clear now, I get it - and you're welcome.

Don't get bent out of shape. They were just trying to enlighten you on the appropriate word to use. I would appreciate someone explaining to me the correct term as opposed to going forward and using a term that is now outdated.

Good. I'm glad you got it, although I have no clue what you think you got. That happens when people choose to talk in code instead of being straightforward.

But frankly, I don't really care at this point.

Her hair suits her personality perfectly. I enjoyed her show tonight minus the BE presentation. Loved the shoes but too old to wear that height.

Since we're not talking in code, SuzyQ3, can I ask what the ~CHOICE~ means? TIA

Oh, it's not code at all, Lucky charm. It means exactly what it sounds like. I am pro-choice.

Always good to see your nic, and I hope all is well with you and yours. Smile
