I think Oriental is a verboten term among the PC crowd. I understand the meaning, but others get bent out of shape. Amy is very cute, nothing about her. I am not allowed to use the word at my workplace.

I think Oriental is only to be used when describing things/items like Oriental rugs.

The following from dictionary.com:

Asian is the most commonly used term referring to people in or from Asia, especially East Asia. In American English, Oriental as a noun or adjective applies to people is outdated and has become a sensitive term to be avoided.

I think Amy and Nancy Hornbeck are probably the prettiest hosts at QVC. Of course all of the hosts' are very attractive.

My pick for prettiest host is Sandra Bennett.

ETA: Jacque Gonzales also has a beautiful face.

Those two hosts would be my picks.

Amy looked the best I have ever seen her. Her new hairstyle was extremely flattering and now that she has her own show on Monday nights, this new look for her is trendy and suits her well... Pretty lady!Smile

Using the term "Oriental" (meaning "Eastern") to refer to Asian people is outdated. It was never used by the people themselves but was a word used by those from Europe and is associated with colonialism.

It's not an outright slur, but I don't use it and find it as jarring as the use of "Negro."

Can you imagine that the day has come where we have to choose the correct words to complement someone? How sad is that.
