Why do some people who color their hair feel so compelled to tell those who do not how horrible grey hair looks? It is none of their business how i want to wear my hair or what color i want to use or not use on it. And to those who say grey hair ages you 20 years - that is just incredibly stupid.

Nobody should be so judgmental as to tell someone else that their hair color looks horrible, so I agree with you.

But no one should state or imply that those who choose to color their hair are gullible sheep who buy into the whole beauty industry or that they are not aging gracefully or whatever other silly remarks have been made some posters -- ahem -- ad nauseam.

This is how I view hair-coloring...it's all about the $$$ & what you're willing to do to get it.

30% do not color, which is no cost.

30% do-it-yourself, which is very inexpensive.

39% is salon colored...expensive & still looks cr.appy!!!

1% is salon colored, beautifully done, for zillions of $$$.

But those ladies...ladies that none of us know...sold their soul to the devil for beautifully colored hair, so... =Smiley Very Happy

I don't agree.

I have salon color that is reasonable. I will temper that by saying I am not a blonde, so I don't have the expense of highlights and double process. I have my own dark auburn shade done. My stylist mixes about 6 different colors, so I have natural high and low lights. It doesn't cost "zillions" and it is beautiful.

I do not feel coerced in to coloring by the beauty industry. I like this color that is "mine but better". Just like wearing lipstick...your lips but better. Or mascara for your lashes but better. These are things I enjoy doing for myself and no one can convince me to feel bad about them.

I don't believe in the devil so there's no selling of my soul. {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Wow. I must have missed that post.

I would think that the vast majority of women who go to a salon to have their hair colored, especially if it's just to do the roots, get good results without having to mortgage their house.

Fact is, if you're just getting a base color, which is what I've been getting for several years now along with a nice glaze put on for the last few minutes, it really doesn't take an exceptional stylist.

But I will admit that it is one beauty ritual that I will not give up. I go every six weeks like clockwork to have my roots done.

I'd say that you and I have a devil-may-care attitude. {#emotions_dlg.devil2}

I think women get the short end of the stick in the aging process. Period. Some days it takes a lot of work to look good... no more low maintenance of my youth.

FWIW I'm a high and low light blonde. I can't imagine being anything but right now. I know I'd look bad gray. I can only go very light brown- really more like dark blonde, but only with brighter lighter blonde mixed in- especially around my face. It makes all the difference in the world. Undeniably.

My husband on the other-hand looks handsome with all the silver in his hair.

To each her own. Embrace your gray if you love it. I have seen a few striking older women with almost pure white hair who are simply elegant.

But I honestly haven't seen true gray on women I'd call super flattering.. then again, I haven't met you lovely ladies in person.

Some examples: The gray model Bobbi Brown uses- she's quite pretty. I can't help but wonder how she'd look going very light brown with highlights. To me she appears to be a tad younger & the gray looks premature. But she can pull it off if anyone can.

Think about Maria (is it?) the older blonde that does a lot of makeup shows- always Bare Minerals.. the golfer who's spent a lot of time in the sun. I can't even imagine her gray- I think it would truly age her.

I'm sitting here trying to come up with examples of gray haired women who look great with their natural color. Maybe a few of you can help me come up with some good examples?

Of course this is my own opinion. We all know beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
