A question regarding pedicures

Hi, before I started this thread, I checked to see if there were any similar ones, and could not find any.  I would like some feedback.  I get pedicures in the summer and I have been going to the same place and same person for about a year.  She cut my foot yesterday.  My cuticle and it bled like stink.  I complained jokingly both to her and to the salon manager....jokingly and asked for a discount.  Got no response.  Wat would you all do?  Would you go back there?  give another chance?  find another salon? And, yes I gave her that same tip.

These cuts should be taken very seriously.

I have a relative who went into a coma and was on life support for several weeks, after undergoing several surgeries to the hand and arm for the infection from a cut from the nail clippers on the middle finger, left hand.

I know of another person (used same hairdresser I have used for about 20 years, very good friend of hairdresser who got her nails done elsewhere as the hair salon does not do naills.  She died from a deep cut on the little finger cuticle that developed cellulits. She too developed a very high fever, went into a coma and died very quickly..

I would see a doctor immediately and see what he/she has to say or what they feel you need to do.  It should not be taken lightly.  Things can happen at any time, but to ignore it is just irresponsible on their part.

If you're a diabetic you should never ever go and get a Pedicure by any one but a Podiatrist.  Period!!!!   I would never go back to that salon, not now, not ever.

Thanks, I was surprised at their seeming indifference.  I did have her put antiseptic on it immediately and fortunately I am not diabetic.  But, I am concerned and did not know if I was over doing it.  I see by the responses so far, I was not.

Re: A question regarding pedicures

@Deanie    In my opinion, I would first off ask how deep is it or long.  I never get pedicures, but I had a bad nail tech that caused severe infection in my nail and the whole nail fell off.  Thank heavens that it grew back.  I had a tech cut me another time and it was because he looked up to see who was coming in the door.  So I guess my question is , was she or he distracted in anyway?   I quit going to the guy that cut me.

@BalletBabe  She was not distracted, but, I noticed that she did have a bandage around her finger.  I asked her what happened and she told me that her nail split down and she was having difficulty using the instruments.

@Deanie   That is a tough one then.  Maybe she cut herself  ugh  I guess if you have been going there and you like her, I would probably go back.  Depending on how badly she cut you.  If it was a bad cut , then I would not!

Re: A question regarding pedicures

If she had a bandage on her finger and even acknowledged the fact that she was having difficulty using the instruments, then that is conscious negligence. And she should never have been using the instruments on any customer to begin with. The salon owner is also negligent in this case. Please write down the day and time you visited the salon and exactly what she said. If the injury worsens, you may have further recourse.

Re: A question regarding pedicures

I really don't know. I've been cut and bled and no discount. I've had the side of my toe swell up and hurt for a week; no discount. But, being real.....my podiatrist has done MORE damage to me feet then any manicurist and I've never received an "I'm sorry" or discount on their office fee.

The person I see now has changed my feet in a way NO podiatrist every has. Sometimes there's blood, sometimes it hurts (ingrowns can when getting them out) but the end result has been amazing.

So, I don't know what to say to do. Smiley Sad

Re: A question regarding pedicures

@Deanie, I would urge you to see your doctor who may give you a preventive dose of antibiotic if he/she deems it advisable.  I was reading just today an article about a young woman who developed sepsis from a small red bump on her arm that somehow became infected, and she was hospitalized for weeks including ICU. Unfortunately, I can't find the article otherwise I'd post it.  Anyway, sepsis can develop from even a very small cut in the skin, and it could rapidly spiral out of control.  I don't want to frighten you, but it's an extremely serious infection.
