Actually I think most of us think the opposite. That we think we are putting out our best face forward but doesn’t cut it to the general public.

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

My friend and I went to a function.  We looked great, we found the perfect dress and accessories, understated makeup and we both had a good hair day.  We looked great.  Then the pictures came back.  Gosh we looked old!  My friend called me and said, "we used to be cute, right?!

I know someone who spends too much time and money to always look put together. I'm sure she thinks she looks fab but those who know her personality and that how she treats people is less than pretty, aren't as impressed as she would like to think.

What a shame that this woman is wasting her life by living a lie, and the jokes on her.  Wow.

But wouldn't because I know how things can get nasty around here from a very innocent question. So I went to my go-to, Google. Generally speaking, do we think we look better than others think we look? I know most people are their own worst critics but here is what Google said...most people think they look better than other people perceive them to look.  Well that's a bummer!  Please don't turn this into something it's not. It's just an innocent thought that's been circulating in my brain for monrhs

@monicakm

I have no doubt whatsoever that most people think they look better than they do.

The reason?   Because I see a surprising number of people who couldn't POSSIBLY have a full length mirror.

We must have a serious shortage of full length mirrors in this country.

Blame the lighting. It's all about the lighting

@Biftu  I bet you and your gal pal looked gorgeous at that event and I bet you're both still plenty cute! "We used to look cute"-- you've still got it and you've never lost it, ladies!  Smiley HappyHeart

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

I don’t consider it “painting” my face. I would say 90% of the women on this forum a would consider it like art. I enjoy that small amount of time being creative. I also see it as an obligation to putting out your best, regardless of age. Many women that I see who don’t wear makeup also don’t dress or groom themselves, not all but a lot. I work at a flagship store in cosmetics and the women I see that do wear makeup tend to be more polished.

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

Perhaps the women without makeup own their self-confidence without it. They can definitely be well-groomed and beautiful without makeup. It might be one's own personal perspective on what they think makes another person polished or lovely.

Confidence comes from within.
