Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

As others stated this is interesting.  My take on it is I hope I look better than I think I do, LOL!   I know what you mean by thinking we may think we look fine but how do others see us?   I know I "feel" like I'm still the beauty of my 20's and 30's (still laughing out loud)

but I do the same at times when I see myself in pictures and the mirror, like who is that?

DH once told me that when you have a beautiful soul it permeates through.

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

I can remember the last time that I got an admiring glance from a man that wasn't 100 years old🫤.  I was around 45 and I was in the grocery store.  He looked at me and smiled and I turned to see who the pretty young girl was that he was admiring.  I was the only person on the aisle!  He saw what I was doing and visibly chuckled like yeah it was you I was looking at!  Not anymore.  The age of possibility brings the age of invisibility!😁😁😁

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

I don't need anyone's opinion about how I look.  I don't spend tons of money on cosmetics and I don't have to paint my face to make me feel better about myself.  The people that I care about accept me for who I am, not how I look.  For those who need that to feel better, go for it!

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

Interesting, I wonder.

I know when I look in my makeup mirrors and mirrors at home I think I look pretty good but anytime I look at myself in store or medical places bathroom mirrors under florescent lighting I'm horrified at the image I see.....haha I look like the walking dead!!!!

The lighting makes a huge difference in my looks!

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

I've seen pictures of myself so I know I don't look as good as I thought I did when I left the house.  As far as pics I post, at least of my face, I know how to hold the camera to get the best shot.  I often think I look better style-wise than the selfies I take.  It's not the style choice.  It's my body.  I'm just more squat than what my mirror tells me.  But, the camera puts me back in my place.

All that really matters to me is how I think I look. What others may think is beyond my control so I don't even go there.

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

For me, I think I look better if put a little makeup on.  Laura Geller helps with that!

I have a funny story that happened a year or so ago.  I was shopping in Boscov's with my daughter at one of the large malls in the area.  She wanted to go into the mall to Bath and Body while I was still shopping in Boscovs.  I told her I would meet her on the second floor of Boscovs right where the elevator doors open, which is their furniture department.

The second floor has other departments I was interested in, so after I was done browsing the 2nd floor, I went directly to the furniture dept.  The recliners and sofas looked inviting, so I put my packages down and sat on a comfortable chair that was close enough to the elevator door when it opened.

As I sat there, other people came and went into the elevator.  One nice looking, older gentleman got out of the elevator and as he was passing by, he said to me, "if I buy that chair, do you come with it?"   Lol..   I don't get flustered very easily, but I did that day.  I don't even remember if I said anything back to him.

My point is, sometimes we're hard or too hard on ourselves, including how we look.

A lot of these response aren't really answering the original question. I don't know if the question can really be answered, because beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I cannot determine how another person views me.

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

When I was big, I didn't feel pretty or stylish.  When I lost my excess weight, I was finally able to wear fashionable clothes and feel pretty. Now I have more clothes than any sensible person should, but I'm making up for lost decades. 😊  Most of the time I don't put forth as much effort when I stay home as when I'm leaving the house. For me, though, when I come down the stairs dressed to go somewhere and DH compliments me, that's all I need.  I try to look my best but what others think really doesn't matter.  To think it does is kind of vain and conceited because they probably care a lot less than we think they do.

Re: A question I've been wanting to ask

@monicakm   Hmmm yes, interesting question.  So, I think I look good, so my perception is others also think I look good.  Ha!  I care what I look like for me.

Funny you put this out there because I went into the grocery store after work today for two items. Ran into a former co-worker who left from my workplace maybe 25 years ago. I haven't seen her since.  I stopped her to say hello  and she wasn't sure who I was...I said what its TZ...she said J****, you have not changed since I left!!! OMG you're not aging...still thin and trim, on and on.  I said awww wow thanks and complimented her as well as she is my age (68) and looked really good.  Also in shape, hair looks nice, little bit of makeup.    So yeah, while I do nit pick me, I guess other see me as looking pretty good.  I can live with that 😉
