A ??? about retinol and glycolic acid

I was under the impression that you are not supposed to mix the two because it would render the retinol ineffective. Is that not the case?

And if it is, then why would a face cream have both ingredients in one jar?

I'm curious about the SCA 5 essentials cream, to be more specific.
