Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

hi all. it's been a very cold, gray day here but nothing like y'all are having in the northeast.

our trip to Jackson yesterday was excellent. it was the trip home that was  sketchy. it started out sunny and cold.  we met our friends at a restaurant for lunch and then went to their house afterwards for desert and coffee. it was just getting dark when we left to drive home and it started raining as soon as we got on the highway. it was (as they call it here) a frog choker! the wind was blowing sheets of rain across the road and visibility was very poor. what normally takes  1 1/2 hours took over 2 hours. I was driving (thank goodness for cataract surgery Smiley Happy ), and was so glad when we finally got home.

our friends sent Christmas gifts home for Ezra and he came for a visit today. one of the gifts was a play toolbox and he carried it with him all over the house the whole time they were here.

DH went north this morning to hunt. he called and said he saw several does, but he's trying to hold out for that big buck he's found evidence of in the area. a friend of his called yesterday and asked if we want a doe that he got, so we have some venison being processed even if DH doesn't get one.

sending blessings to all.

here's a Pascagoula bay train bridge sunset.

have a peaceful evening, y'all.

Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

@Hayfield, I am still on the hunt for a product that will help my undereye puffiness. the truth is, surgery is probably the only solution for me but I doubt that is ever going to happen, so I keep searching.

the only thing I have used that helps a little is IT Cosmetics Bye-Bye Undereye Treatment cream. it's what I'm using now and the weird thing is some days it seems to diminish the puffiness and some days it does nothing.

@MariotaMurielle  - how scary to have to drive in that kind of weather.  So glad you made it home ok.  Love that Ezra carried his tool box around.  I remember when I learned how to use a Phillips screwdriver.  I went around the house and took all the plates off the light switches.  My mom was not happy.  HAHAHA  Can't remember how old I was.  She made me put them all back on.  Don't think she was happy with my Dad for showing me how to use a screwdriver.

Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

@MariotaMurielle  That sounds like you drove through what the Weather Channel is calling winter storm Finn. That storm is supposed to affect us with heavy rain on Wednesday. It's predicted to cause flooding where people got the snow.

Right now as I look out the windows, it did snow (about 3") but now it's raining. This storm is supposed to leave our area by nightfall with another up to 3" of snow expected to fall.

I'm enjoying my French toast. I almost want a 2nd helping, but I'll hold off.

I used the Sara Lee Artesano Maple Brown Sugar bread. This morning I added cinnamon & some allspice to the egg mixture along with the milk & vanilla extract. Next time will switch out the allspice for nutmeg.

Hanging inside today doing the shopping list. I only have the kitchen garbage bags in my cabinet, none on hand in closet.

Have a peaceful Sunday.

Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

Good Morning,

@JudyL , I have a stepper, similar to the Cubii, and use it standing or sitting. It's a good workout once you are comfortable with it...

@MariotaMurielle , so glad you made it home safe. I hardly drive at night at all anymore. The tool box is a great gift for Ezra!

@Hayfield , your trip to Florida sounds like fun. I hope it won't be too difficult to arrange your schedules..

@LTT1 , is the pricey eye cream you bought Sisley brand? I checked that one out, and it has a lot of good reviews.

I think we'll finally get a break in the rain. It's still very wet and cold outside, but the sun is shining. Our granddaughter goes back to New York this week. The weather's really cold there with snow predicted at times during the week. I always worry about the long flight until she arrives. My sister, who lives a couple hours away, had an earthquake a couple nights ago. I think a 4.7. It shook her house and lasted long enough to be really scary.

I use a relatively inexpensive eye cream from Target called RoC. I don't have a problem with puffiness, mostly fine lines, and this helps. There's one by No. 7 I've bought from there too which I thought was good. Of course, I've tried others more expensive from Sephora.

im making a pot roast today in the slo cooker. I have a simple recipe I've used from when we first got married many years ago with cream of mushroom soup and Lipton Onion soup mix. Makes a great gravy. I've tweaked it a little by adding red wine. The alcohol from the wine cooks off but gives a nice flavor as well as makes the roast very tender..

Everyone stay safe and warm...have a blessed Sunday.

@SleeplessinSD  - I'm making a pot roast also today.  Used to use the recipe you mentioned but today I'm trying something new.  Also it's the first time that I've used my InstaPot as a slow cooker.  Keeping fingers crossed all goes well.  Sorry to hear about the quake at your sister's - 4.7 is a pretty good shaker.  Definitely enough to get your attention and be scary.

Will watch football today and that'll be about it for me.  Have a good Sunday everyone!

Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

It's now finally snowing & heavily. The paths that were clear earlier are now covered over.

I'm watching a pre-recorded program from American Masters about Edward Hopper.  -- most famous painting is Nighthawks.

Re: “2024”, Everyone, Please Join Us!

Good Evening!  Today was a pretty quiet Sunday, DH went to golf this morning at 7 AM, so I had the house to myself until about 11, I got a few things done and relaxed this afternoon.  The sun came out but it was chilly.  I'm playing golf tomorrow, I haven't played in almost 2 weeks, so I'll be rusty, well I'm always rusty when it comes to golf!

JulyL & SISD--I love a good pot roast, I usually make them in the winter months, I made one when DS was here and there wasn't anything left.

Viva--Congrats to DGD for getting into the "Disney" program!

JJM--Take care with the snow!

MM--I hate driving at night and in bad weather!  Glad you made it home OK.

Have a good evening everyone!
